Trumbull road closings

The Trumbull County Engineer’s Office announced road closings in July for a culvert replacement and a bridge replacement.

Corinth Court Road, between state Route 5 and Davis Peck Road in Johnston Township, will be closed from July 5 to Oct. 2 for the culvert replacement. The recommended detour is northeast on state Route 5, northwest on Mayburn Corners Barclay Road and south on Corinth Court.

County Line Turnpike Road, between State Route 534 and Stroup Hickox Road, in Southington Township will be closed from July 10 to Oct. 6 for a bridge replacement.

The recommended detour route is north on Stroup Hickox Road, west on Geauga Portage Easterly Road and south on state Route 534.

Water reports available

The annual confidence reports regarding the six water districts run by the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer’s Office are available online or by mail, the sanitary engineer’s office reports. To access each report, visit the sanitary engineer’s website at www.sanengr.co.trumbull.oh.us/# and select the 2016 Consumer Confidence Reports link at the bottom left.

The reports give customers readings for various pollutants found during testing by district. To receive a copy of a consumer confidence report by mail, call 330-675-2775.

Blevins gets 6 years for hotel robbery

WARREN

Daniel L. Blevins Jr., 31, of North River Road has been sentenced to six years in prison for the April 21 robbery at the Best Western Hotel, downtown.

Blevins pleaded guilty Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to aggravated robbery.

Police said he robbed the hotel at just after midnight. A clerk watched two men “rush” into the hotel with one pointing a handgun at a worker.

They got about $200 in cash and fled. Police located Blevins a short time later.

Man faces prison after guilty plea in meth case

WARREN

Dennis Duffield, 49, of Liberty Street in Newton Falls pleaded guilty Monday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to a charge accusing him of making methamphetamine at home. He will be sentenced to up to three years in prison after the Trumbull County Adult Probation Department conducts a presentence investigation into his background.

Newton Falls police said Duffield’s wife came to the Newton Falls Police Department on Oct. 11 and reported that Duffield was making meth in their garage and home. Members of the Trumbull Ashtabula Group Law Enforcement Task Force entered the home with her permission and found products used in the manufacture of the drug.

A grandson, 6, lives in the home, the woman said.

YNDC seeks applicants for AmeriCorps

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. is seeking applicants for AmeriCorps.

AmeriCorps members serve with YNDC to board up, clean up, cut grass, and repair and rehabilitate vacant homes in neighborhoods.

Members serve approximately 40 hours per week for a three- to six-month term, with an option to serve an additional term with good performance. Members receive a living allowance of approximately $1,000 per month to help make ends meet while serving. Upon successful completion of service, members are eligible to receive a Segal Education Award, which can be used to pay for college or student loans.

‘Transitions in Autism’

The Rich Center for Autism will present “Transitions in Autism from Preschool to Adulthood” from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday in Kilcawley Center on the campus of Youngstown State University.

The conference, which is open to the public, features a keynote address by Brenda Smith Myles, a consultant with the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence and the Ziggurat Group.

The conference will focus on transitions, such as a sudden schedule or lifestyle change, such as beginning school, graduating or starting a new job, which are often difficult for people on the autism spectrum and their families. Man charged with breaking and entering

WARREN

William J. Sullivan, 50, of Parkman Road Northwest, was arraigned Monday in Warren Municipal Court on felony breaking and entering, accused of breaking into the STEAM Academy, 261 Elm Road, NE, at 3:32 p.m. Saturday.

He is being held in the Trumbull County jail without eligibility to make bond, and a not-guilty plea was entered.

Police were called to the school for a burglar alarm and spotted Sullivan wearing no shirt climbing out of a window of the building.

Sullivan climbed down on a fire escape and was taken to the county jail.

Inside the school, it appeared that someone had rummaged through the cabinets and desk drawers in one room, police said.

YSU students selected for Fellows program

Megan Guliano, Lexi Kulisz, Tim Nesnidol and Matt Yourstowsky, students in the Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University, have been selected as John D. Beeghly Fellows for the 2017 summer semester.

The Beeghly Fellows program provides students with a paid fellowship working with the Ohio Small Business Development Center at YSU. Projects include marketing research, preparation of financial statements, export readiness studies, country research, business plan development, cash-flow analysis and sales forecast.

Austintown to try for world record

AUSTINTOWN

Austintown will be kicking off its Fourth of July festivities by attempting to set a world record.

The township is trying to get the most people playing the piccolo at the same time at Austintown Township Park at 7 p.m. today.

The piccolo players will perform John Philip Sousa’s “Stars and Stripes Forever” before the Canfield Community Concert Band’s performance as part of Austintown’s 2017 Summer Concerts in the Park.

License transferred

AUSTINTOWN

The Austintown Board of Trustees transferred a liquor license that belonged to the former Mike’s Lounge on Mahoning Avenue to Fabulous Times LLC.

Fabulous Times operates Fab Limousines, and the company wants to be able to serve alcohol to customers while they wait to go on bus trips, trustees said.

Mike’s Lounge was demolished earlier this month.
