“BET Awards” (8 p.m., BET): “Saturday Night Live” funny lady Leslie Jones is our host for the 17th annual “BET Awards.” Performers include Bruno Mars, Future, Migos, Trey Songz, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, Tamar Braxton, DJ Khaled, Big Sean and more.

“Preacher” (10 p.m., AMC): Better buckle up. As the absurdly twisted “Preacher” returns for its second season, Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy hit the road in search of God. Unfortunately, they soon realize that they’re being stalked by a killer cowboy from Hell.

“Prime Suspect: TENNISON” (10 P.M., PBS): Before she was an ace detective who took down bad guys and overcame workplace sexism, Jane Tennison was just a 22-year-old rookie probationary officer in 1970s London. This absorbing, three-episode “Masterpiece” prequel turns back the clock to explore the early events and influences that shaped the iconic character immortalized by Helen Mirren. Stefanie Martini (“Doctor Thorne”) stars as the young Jane.

Sutliff Museum plans open house

WARREN

The Sutliff Museum will have an open house Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. to celebrate Independence Day. The public can enjoy lemonade and cookies while visiting the museum, and children can do a craft. There will be a story time from 2 to 3 p.m.

It will be the final weekend to see the “Vintage Wedding Cake Toppers” exhibit in the community display case. The museum is in the Warren-Trumbull County Public Library at 444 Mahoning Ave.

Piano ensemble

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown State University’s summer piano ensemble workshop’s closing recital, featuring Sean Baran and piano majors, will take place at 11 a.m. Friday in Bliss Recital Hall, on the lower level of Bliss Hall, 547 Wick Ave.

Jim Frank concert

NORTH LIMA

The Jim Frank Combo will perform from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Woodworth Park. The band will not play at Roosevelt Park in Campbell on Tuesday, as was reported in The Vindicator on Thursday.
