Police late Thursday arrested two men in separate traffic stops on felony cocaine charges.
Curtis Bryant, 55, of West Evergreen Avenue, was arrested after he was pulled over about 11 p.m. at Hillman and Evergreen avenues on the South Side for running a stop sign. Reports said he would not take his hands out of his pockets, and when police checked his pockets, they found several loose rocks of suspected crack cocaine.
About 11 p.m., police pulled over a car at Hillman Street and Chicago Avenue on the South Side driven by Thomas Johnson, 48, of Idlewood Avenue, for running a red light.
Reports said Johnson was mumbling as he spoke to officers, and when he was asked to open his mouth, police saw a rock of suspected crack cocaine inside. Both men were taken to the Mahoning County jail.
Closing for beams
LIBERTY
The Ohio Department of Transportation said beginning Wednesday, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Liberty Street under Interstate 80 will be closed for the placement of bridge beams. The detour will be Motor Inn Drive to state Route 193 (Belmont Avenue).
Also, Liberty Street between Motor Inn and Belmont is restricted to one lane for bridge construction through late August. Traffic is maintained by a traffic signal.
The work is part of a $91.5 million project to widen I-80 between state Route 11 and Belmont. The entire project is scheduled to be completed by late July 2018.
ODOT also announced that Anderson Morris Road over Route 11 in the township is open.
Promoted to principal
CAMPBELL
Bradley Yeager, formerly the Campbell Memorial High School vice principal, has been promoted to principal.
The board of education approved a two-year contract for Yeager, who starts his new job this school year. He will earn $88,286 during his first year as principal. He earned $81,804 during his last year as vice principal.
The former high-school principal, Jacquelyn Hampton, has decided to move to the Columbus area to be closer to family. The board had renewed her contract this spring.
TimeBank mixer set

TimeBank will host its monthly fourth Tuesday potluck mixer from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.
Attendees are asked to bring chili, soup, or a casserole dish, salad, or favorite bread/grain or dessert to share. Any food or nonalcoholic drink is perfect. Participants also are asked to bring their own place settings with mugs, bowls and spoons.
Enroll in Head Start

Parents of children age 6 weeks to 3 years, as well as parents of children age 3 to 5, can enroll their children in Alta Early Head Start or Alta Head Start at a special-enrollment event Monday.
The preschool enrollment event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Renaissance Learning Center, 345 Oak Hill Ave. There will be fun activities for children who accompany their parents, including snacks, raffles and vendors.
Parents must bring this required information in order to enroll their child: proof of birth, proof of income and proof of residency.
