Students inducted into the National Italian Honor Society

On May 12, the Maria Montessori chapter of the Societ Onoraria Italica, the National Italian Honor Society inducted 17 juniors, two seniors and one honorary member at the annual induction ceremony.

Juniors who were inducted included Isabella Beil, Mia Bruno, Benjamin Burkey, Tyler Catanzarite, Luciano Cardillo, McKenna Connolly, Grace Coppola, Annaliisa Cordova, Makayla D’Eramo, Luke Durbin, David Giancola, Gloria Hynes, Kyle Kimerer, Cade Kreps, Christopher Mediate, Mazin Musleh, Mari Sulebi and Emma Worsencroft. Jack Zocolo, the Boardman Local Schools operations director, was this year’s honoree. In attendance were past honorary members, administrators, former teachers, parents and guests. The ceremony featured a performance of the National Anthem by Savanna Wade, a Boardman High School student, and musical selections by four members of the Boardman High School orchestra.

Robert Lewis, president of the chapter, and the senior members helped with the induction ceremony by recognizing famous historical Italian-Americans, lighting candles, which represent the main principles of the chapter, and presenting the official banner.

The Boardman Chapter of the Italian National Honorary Society was the first chapter established in Ohio in 1997. The advisors of the chapter are current BHS Italian teachers, Maddalena Amero, Mary Ann Keifer and Liliana McElhaney.
