The Canfield 4th of July Committee recently announced that this year’s celebration continues the 52nd annual tradition.
July 4 begins early with the Firecracker4 Mile Run. You can register ahead of time by visiting www.canfield4thofjuly.com. There is a race form on the home page. Registration will also be taken at the Township Hall on the Green, beginning at 7:30 a.m. The children’s race around the Green starts at 8:15 a.m. in front of Farmers National Bank. The Firecracker 4 Mile takes off at 8:30 a.m. and the starting line is in front of the Canfield United Methodist Church. This race is run on a familiar course, through the streets of Canfield.
Parade participants line up early at the Fairgrounds with committee members Dave Burch, Gary Hubbard and Steve Bennett, as well as countless volunteers help the floats, bands, antique cars and local and state dignitaries find their parade placement. At precisely 10:10 a.m., Parade Starters Jim Queen and Mark Sabol will launch the Canfield 4th of July Parade. Led by Police Chief Chuck Colucci and Fire Chief Don Hutchison, the parade will travel north on Broad Street and wind around the Green, passing by the reviewing stand.
Following the parade, stop by the gazebo for the patriotic country sounds of Andy Timko, local musician and former Canfield resident. There are also games and bounce-arounds for the children on the North Green, including a petting zoo, all organized by committee member Courtney Larson. There is also a climbing wall and a dunk tank where you can dunk your favorite Canfield Police officer.
If a pet show is more your style, wander over to the South Green where Doctor’s Park Veterinary will be judging the pet competition.
Of course, you’ll want to stop by the food court for a delicious variety of sandwiches, fries and cold drinks, with all proceeds benefitting local non-profit organizations.
“It’s a tradition we are so proud to carry on,” said Committee Co-Chair Enid Maldonado. “The year of preparation is definitely worth it to see so many people enjoy this celebration of our country’s independence.”
