Austintown Lions host 22nd 5-K run
The weather was great on May 13 at Austintown Township Park as the Austintown Lions Club hosted its 22nd annual 5-K run, with Lion Larry Jensen serving as race chairman for all the 22 years.
It all started off with a Kid’s Run, with 9-year old Alexis Johnson of Canfield as the winner. The 5-K followed with some 51 runners.
The overall winner was Jonathon Bolha (Scooby Dooby) from Austintown with a time of 17:09. Anthony Costa of Niles finished in second place with a time of 17:27. Finishing third was Tom Grantonic of Boardman with a time of 18:24.
For the women, Geniene Hankey of Youngstown came in first with a time of 23:10. Josellen Hrusoksky from Austintown finished in second place with a time of 24:50. Susan Sarachene of Austintown finished in third place with a time of 26:34.
In the Masters category, age 40 and older, Everett Briggs from Youngstown came in first with a time of 19:08. Finishing second was Tim Hertel from Akron with a time of 20:39. Finishing third was Heath Morgan from Alliance with a time of 21:30.
For the Women’s Masters, Miriam Ortiz of New Castle came in first with a time of 29:09. In second place was Joann Olson from Boardman with a time of 30:14. Finishing third was Tracye Hurtel of Akron with a time of 35:05.
The oldest runner for the Masters was Tom Frederick, 82, of Austintown.
There were also many door prizes awarded. The finish line was provided by the Youngstown Road Runners Club.
