WARREN

City officials say they are excited to see 11 commercial structures being demolished in the city over the next four months with $116,000 in Community Development Block Grants.

The demolitions began Tuesday at the former Charlie’s Beer and Wine at 2416 Youngstown Road S.E., which is the largest of the projects at $16,988.

M&M Excavating received the contract for that project and seven others, including properties on Summit Street, Parkman Road, Homewood Avenue, Niles Road, Front Street, Viola Street and West Market Street.

Siegel Excavating will be handling three others, on Parkman Road, Main Avenue and Victoria Street.

Mayor Doug Franklin said the Charlie’s demolition is part of the city’s strategic plan to clean up the high-traffic corridors of the city.
