Police arrested a man Tuesday afternoon after reports said a loaded .40-caliber semiautomatic handgun was found in the trunk of a car he was driving.
Germaine Robinson, 22, of Ferndale Avenue, was arraigned Wednesday in municipal court on a charge of carrying concealed weapons. His preliminary hearing is next Tuesday before Judge Robert Milich.
Reports said Robinson was in a car stopped by police about 3:35 p.m. on Halls Heights Avenue on the West Side after neighbors flagged down police and told them the car contained people who had recently been in a fight on the street.
Robinson is in the Mahoning County jail.
YSU police officer to face DUI charges

A Youngstown State University police officer will face a charge of operating a vehicle while impaired Friday.
Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers arrested Joseph Schialdone, 36, of Boardman, after Schialdone committed a signaling violation while switching lanes June 2.
Schialdone will be arraigned at 9 a.m. Friday in Mahoning County Area Court in Canfield.
Prostitution charges, warrant and sunburn

Police arrested a woman found early Wednesday at Cohasset Drive and Hillman Street flagging down cars on a warrant and prostitution charges.
Reports also said Heather Church, 28, no address listed, also was charged with obstructing official business after giving police a fake name. Reports said she told police she could not remember her Social Security number because she had a brain injury, reports said. Church was in a South Side area known for prostitution when she was spotted about 2:30 a.m., reports said.
Church was denied entry to the jail because of severe sunburn, reports said. She had to be taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital to be examined before she was taken back to the jail.
240-day sentence

A man who pleaded guilty in federal court to charges he supplied drugs that led to the death of a man was sentenced Wednesday to 240 days in federal prison.
Judge Christopher A. Boyko handed down the sentence in the U.S. Northern District Court of Ohio to Shayne Mascarella, 23, during a hearing in Cleveland.
Mascarella pleaded guilty in March to a charge he sold heroin to a person referred to as “LZ” in court papers who died July 19, 2015, federal prosecutors said. Mascarella was one of five men indicted by a federal grand jury in January for bringing drugs to Youngstown and selling them.
