Youngstown BOE tables resolutions

YOUNGSTOWN

Youngstown Board of Education members tabled all resolutions during a continued meeting Monday after more than two hours of executive session. The original meeting was June 13.

The resolutions considered dealt with limiting the contracts of CEO Krish Mohip’s personnel hirings to Mohip’s contract length, requesting input in superintendent selection and requesting having board opinions taken into account by Mohip in his decisions.

Warren man robbed

WARREN

Police said a 24-year-old man who lives in an apartment at 1375 Fifth St. SW was robbed of $50 in cash, two cellphones, a laptop computer and keys at 1 a.m. Sunday. The victim said he went outside to take out the trash. On the way back in, three males put a gun to his head and pushed him into his residence. The men hit him in the back of the head with the pistol, forced him to lie on the ground and took the items.

New police officers

YOUNGSTOWN

The city police department at 9 a.m. today will welcome four new officers in a ceremony at city council chambers, sixth floor at city hall, 26 S. Phelps St. Taking the oath of office from Mayor John A. McNally will be Jason Sletvold, Thomas Phillips, Kylee Simmons and Jennifer Hudson. The four are expected to begin training with a field-training officer next week after completing in-service training this week.

Domestic violence

AUSTINTOWN

A man was arrested on charges of domestic violence after allegedly threatening and punching his girlfriend, according to a report. The girlfriend of Chad Litzinger, 31, of Austintown, told police he woke her up about 3 a.m. Saturday at the Fountain Square Drive apartment they share. He reportedly threatened to kill her, struck her in the face and punched her in the head. Police charged Litzinger with domestic violence. He was taken into custody by Niles police at an address he resided at previously.

Drug charges

BOARDMAN

A Lisbon woman faces a drug possession charge after a traffic stop in the township Saturday. Melissa Rapp, 36, is charged with the felony-five charge after police said they found a bag of suspected heroin in her vehicle after an officer stopped her for driving without working brake lights. Rapp is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court today for arraignment.

TCCS graduation lunch

WARREN

Trumbull County Children Services will have its annual graduation luncheon at noon today in the agency’s multipurpose room in the Residential Center, 2282 Reeves Road NE.

This year, seven graduates will be honored from Warren G. Harding High School, Howland High School, Liberty High School, Mineral Ridge High School and Ravenna High School.

Each year, Children Services recognizes the accomplishments of young men and women who complete high school having overcome the struggles that often come before and during their time in the agency’s custody.

Sex crimes reported

WARREN

Three sexually oriented crimes were reported to the Warren Police Department between Friday and Sunday.

A female, 21, reported being raped early Sunday. Also a female, age not given, reported early Saturday another female was posting private photos of her on Facebook.

And early Friday, a 13-year-old girl reported being raped. Police did not provide many details on either reported rape.

Man pleads guilty to crimes against child

MERCER, PA.

A Girard man accused of sexually assaulting a child in Pennsylvania entered a guilty plea Monday in Mercer County Common Pleas Court. Pymatuning Township officers charged William Casey, Jr., 57, with indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault. Officers arrested him in Girard on a warrant in July 2016. His sentencing is set for October.

STEM Academy spots

CANFIELD

Valley STEM + ME 2 Academy has a few spots left for the 2017-18 school year. If your child is interested in being hands-on, creative and innovative, then the STEM Academy is the school for them. There are only 100 spots available for ninth grade and 100 spots available for 10th grade.

The 7,500-square-foot lab is housed on the Mahoning County Career and Technical Center Campus in Canfield, 7300 N. Palmyra Road. Improvement meeting

YOUNGSTOWN

The city and Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. will host a Cornersburg neighborhood action plan public meeting at 5:30 p.m. today at New Covenant Worship Center, 1900 Canfield Road. Area residents are encouraged to attend to tell city and YNDC officials what needs to be done to improve the neighborhood.
