Mercy Health – Youngstown is offering free and open-to-the-public health education sessions during June. They include:

St. Joseph Warren Hospital, yoga classes from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. or 7 to 8:15 p.m. on Mondays from July 10-Aug. 21 taught by Dawn Perhacs, a certified yoga instructor. The cost is $58, or $44 for Mercy Health employees. Call 330-480-3070 to register.

Diabetes Self-Management Education classes are offered June 27-29 at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The sessions include topics such as what diabetes is, diabetes medicines, monitoring your blood glucose, benefits of exercise, diet and customized meal planning.

A doctor referral is required. Most insurances cover the cost of the classes. Call 330-480-2665 to help get a referral from a physician and to register for the classes.

A free program, “Mindful Eating,” is offered from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Friday at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital, 8401 Market St. The class teaches participants how to take charge of their well-being by taking charge of what they eat. Parking is free. To register, call 330-480-3070.

Mercy Health – Youngstown is offering a “Health at Home” class from 11 a.m. to noon Thursday at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. The class is based on the book “Health at Home: Your Complete Guide to Symptoms, Solutions & Self Care” and provides instructions for handling more than 200 common health problems. Call 330-480-3070 to register.

Help Network Northeast Ohio gets $1,000 grant

YOUNGSTOWN

Help Network of Northeast Ohio, formerly Help Hotline Crisis Center, Inc., received a $23,000 grant from the Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation. Programs offered by Help Network include:

Suicide Hotline: Phone lines are staffed 24/7/365 for those considering suicide or those who know of someone who is.

Recovery Services: Programs that empower consumers of mental health services to accept their illness and take control of the management of their illness.

WarmLine – A Peer-to-Peer program specializing in responding to individuals who are lonely or depressed; have received mental health, drug and alcohol services; or know someone who is currently receiving these services.

East Liverpool Peer Resource and Recovery Center: A facility tailored to meet the needs of people with mental illness.

The Margaret Clark Morgan Foundation: Supports nourishment of the human mind through the promotion of mental wellness, the arts and education.

New camp program

YOUNGSTOWN

The Autism Society of Mahoning Valley is offering a new program, Camp FRIEND Family Week, that helps families on the autism spectrum and other special needs to get out into the community to enjoy activities with their peers and their families.

The camp is June 26-30 with an activity planned each day. The highlight of the week is a Kennywood Day on June 28 including a chartered bus to the park! Sponsor-A-Child donations and volunteer opportunities are available.
