Chef Mark Canzonetta of Aqua Pazzo restaurant in Boardman and his daughter, Gina, won $20,000 Sunday on the Food Network show “Guy’s Grocery Games: Father Cooks Best” edition by beating out two father-son combinations.
The Canzonettas won round one with a grilled Italian dish featuring sausage that “would have been like one of Grandma’s plates on a Sunday afternoon,” said Canzonetta.
The judge’s comments included: “I’m blown away ... unbelievable ... I was happy all the way around.”
In the final round, the Canzonettas and their opponents were tasked with creating a “game-day favorite,” a dish to enjoy while sitting around watching the game.
The Canzonettas’ winning dish featured wings and a chicken sandwich. Among the ingredients they were required to use was Ramen noodles. “My mouth is exploding with flavor,” said one of the judges upon tasting the dish.
When they were announced the winners, making them eligible to identify and find five items within two minutes, Gina turned to her father and said: “I love you, Dad.”
Father and daughter rushed around the grocery store and found the fifth and final items with about 2 seconds to spare, giving them the $20,000.
“It is great to see a father-and-daughter combo doing this together,” said Guy Fieri, host of the show that aired at 8 p.m. Sunday.
“It is something we’ll never forget,” Mark Canzonetta said.
