Man dies after being shocked in lake during rescue try

PUT-IN-BAY

Authorities say a 19-year-old central Ohio man has died after being electrocuted while trying to save his father and family dog at a Lake Erie island marina.

State officials say Evan Currie, of Dublin, was killed Friday evening on Put-in-Bay where his family docks its 33-foot-long power boat in western Lake Erie.

Officials say the boat had just been plugged in for shore power when the family’s dog fell into the water. Currie’s father, Jeffrey, jumped in to save the dog and immediately began struggling. Evan Currie and his brother jumped into the water and also struggled.

Jeffrey Currie and his other son managed to get back onto the boat after the shore power was unplugged while Evan Currie did not.

Ohio driver sentenced in 2016 crash that killed 3

CLEVELAND

A man driving a car that crashed and killed three teenage passengers in Cleveland has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and his driving privileges revoked for life.

Twenty-one-year-old Kareem Walton apologized to the victims’ families and friends Friday in a Cuyahoga County courtroom.

Walton previously pleaded guilty to charges that included aggravated-vehicular homicide and aggravated- vehicular assault.

Authorities have said the Cleveland man was intoxicated when he crashed in July while driving to a party with the teens. Police said he lost control of the car after speeding past officers at about 80 mph.

Solar plant to provide 80 percent of school’s power

ATHENS

An Ohio school hopes to generate 80 percent of its electricity through a new solar plant.

The solar array is being developed for Federal Hocking High School in Stewart in southeast Ohio over the next 18 months.

Geoff Greenfield is the founder of Third Sun Solar in Athens County that’s building the array. He says the project will save the district about $2 million in energy costs over 30 years.

3 picked to score Ohio medical-pot grower applications

Three companies have been selected to review Ohio’s anticipated flood of applications for medical- marijuana grow licenses.

A spokeswoman for the Ohio Department of Commerce said Friday the companies are iCann Consulting, B&B Grow Solutions and Meade & Wing. A fourth bidder, GenFin Services, was not selected.

Friday was the deadline for small-scale cultivators to apply to compete for 12 available licenses.

Stephen Furst, Flounder in ‘Animal House,’ dies at 63

LOS ANGELES

The family of Stephen Furst says the “Animal House” actor has died.

Nathan Furst said Saturday that his father died of complications from diabetes.

Stephen Furst was 63. He died Friday at his home in Moorpark, Calif., north of Los Angeles.

Furst played the character Kent “Flounder” Dorfman in the 1978 hit movie “Animal House.” Furst also appeared in a number of TV shows, including “St. Elsewhere” and “Babylon 5.”
