LOWELLVILLE
Dennis Hynes is leaving a job as Struthers Elementary lead principal to become the new K-12 principal for Lowellville Local Schools.
The Lowellville Board of Education approved a three-year contract for Hynes during a special meeting this week.
He will start work Aug. 1 with a $93,000 annual salary. The Struthers district is searching for his replacement.
Hynes, a former Lowellville basketball coach, began his career as a teacher for the Lowellville district.
“Mr. Hynes brings years of experience in the classroom and in administration,” Lowellville Superintendent Eugene Thomas said. “Lowellville is very excited about the return of Dennis Hynes to the village.”
Hynes, a Lowellville resident, sent his children to Lowellville schools. He believes his experience in Struthers will translate to the Lowellville district.
“I believe Struthers and Lowellville are sister communities,” Hynes said. “I think they are similar in economics and family backgrounds.”
Hynes replaces Christine Sawicki, who has accepted a two-year contract as a deputy chief of transformation at Youngstown City Schools.
Her annual salary will be $111,750.
“I’m excited to add Christine to my team,” Youngstown City Schools CEO Krish Mohip said in a statement. “As a deputy chief of transformation, she will help oversee our high-school programs. Christine brings the talents and skills she’s honed in other school districts to the Youngstown City Schools and will play a crucial role in our efforts to transform this district.”
