2 charged with child endangering

STRUTHERS

Two people were arraigned Friday in Struthers Municipal Court on accusations by police of child neglect.

Struthers residents Melissa Stroup, 25, and Logan Eckenrode, 22, face charges of child endangering.

Police responded Monday to the area of West Como Street after a 4-year-old boy reportedly had escaped out the window of a home on West Wilson Street where Stroup and Eckenrode were living.

There were dirty diapers strewn across the child’s room and cat feces throughout the home, according to a police report. Police said the child had been wandering outside in 90-degree heat while wearing a soiled diaper.

Stroup and Eckenrode could not be reached to comment Friday afternoon. Their next court appearances are set for Aug. 7.

‘Five Minutes with the Mayor’

The monthly “Five Minutes with the Mayor” will take place Tuesday, starting at 5 p.m., in the mayor’s office on the first floor of city hall, 26 S. Phelps St. Citizens are invited to visit with Mayor John A. McNally for up to five minutes to ask questions or voice concerns on issues in the city.

$3K in drugs found in search of home

SALEM

Police in Salem teamed up with the Columbiana County Drug Task Force on Thursday to conduct a search that produced more than $3,000 in illicit drugs from a house in the 200 block of Hawley Street.

According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, officers found more than 8 grams of fentanyl, 12 grams of suspected crack cocaine and 3 grams of suspected cocaine and marijuana, with a combined street value of $3,100.

Public meeting to discuss pool

There will be a public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday to discuss the community pulling together to save the city pool. The meeting will take place at the American Legion Hall, 1029 N. Main St.

Credit hours for fertilizer certificate

CANFIELD

Fertilizer certification field days are being offered this summer in Mahoning and Columbiana counties. These field days will offer three hours of credit for those farmers and commercial ag operators who need a fertilizer certificate from the Ohio Department of Agriculture.

To find out the rules and requirements for certification, visit www.nutrienteducation.osu.edu/FerilizerResources. The June field day will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday at Terry Baird Farms, 9471 Berlin Station Road.

Presenters for the day will include Lee Beers and Rory Lewandowski, who are OSU Extension Educators and certified crop advisers. CCA credits will be given at the program.

Sebring man to be released from prison

SEBRING

A Sebring man sentenced to two years in prison for making meth around his children is being released, according to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Adam Tyson was convicted of child endangerment, illegal possession of chemicals and drug possession in October 2016, all of which are felonies.

According to police, Tyson was making meth within 100 feet of his 10- and 12-year-old children. Thursday morning, Judge Lou L. D’Apolito granted Tyson’s request for an early release.

Tyson spent nine months in prison, less than half of his sentenced time.
