Second-graders at Poland Union Elementary helped bring the school year to a close with the final musical on May 15 at Poland Seminary High School.
Dean Wilson, kindergarten through fourth-grade music instructor, works with students from Union and Dobbins Elementary to enhance their knowledge in music.
Wilson teaches students how to read music, different rhythms and many other things aside from just learning new songs.
The second-grade teachers attended the concert to see the final performance of what their students have been working so hard on. The students practiced not only at school, but at home. They practiced singing the songs they learned and some of the dance moves that went along with them.
There were several students who would come to the front of the stage between songs to announce what the next song would be.
Other students would come to the stage to sing a solo, duet or trio with their fellow classmates.
Each grade level performed a concert for their friends and families.
The students prepared for the concert weeks in advance to make sure they are ready and excited for the concert.
The concert ended with Wilson telling the students how proud he was of them for the dedication they put in to making the performance a success.
Wilson also thanked the Poland Board of Education and mentioned that if they didn’t bring music back, the students wouldn’t have opportunities such as this to explore and expand their creative side.
