From 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, Faith In Action and Valley Voices United For Change will host “Death By A Thousand Budget Cuts,” a mock funeral, complete with an open coffin and hearse, to vividly illustrate how Trumpcare and President Trump’s “skinny budget” will hurt middle-class families in Ohio and those struggling to enter the middle class. The event will be take place at New Jerusalem Fellowship Church, 2555 Palmyra Road SW, where Alton L. Merrell, Sr., is host pastor. Immediately after the service, a meal will be served in the dining facility to encourage further fellowship and dialogue.

Child left in vehicle

A Youngstown man is charged with child endangering after police said he left his young child alone in a vehicle while he went into a store. Charged with the misdemeanor offense is Shawn Hamlett, 21, of Potomac Avenue. According to a police report, police were called to Gabe’s on U.S. Route 224 about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, where they found a toddler alone in the car, which was running with the air conditioning on and a window cracked. Hamlett reportedly told police he could not remember his child’s birthdate, but that the child was almost 2. He was arrested and released on a summons to appear in Mahoning County Area Court here.

Child calls 911

WARREN

Detectives were called to investigate the possible overdose of a man, 41, at his house on Austin Avenue Northwest on Tuesday night as a “crime scene.”

A child of the man called 911 at 7:11 p.m., saying the man had stopped breathing. An officer found the man unresponsive on a bedroom floor. Ambulance personnel worked on the man, but it’s not known whether he survived. A report said the man’s condition was “unknown.”

3 hurt in truck mishap

LAKE MILTON

Three men were hospitalized with nonlife-threatening injuries after a semi-truck trailer and a roadway painter truck collided shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday on Interstate 76 in Milton Township.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post said the semi, driven by Donald Sloan, 60, of St. Louis, Mo., was eastbound on I-76 in the left lane; and the painter truck, driven by Rafael Solis, 58, of Cleveland, was eastbound on the entrance ramp to I-76 from state Route 534. The crash occurred when the painter truck changed lanes from the entrance ramp and was struck by the semi. Injured were two workers standing on the rear platform, Michael J. Saar, 31, and Jakob M. Saar, 22, and Sloan.

Guilty pleas entered

YOUNGSTOWN

A Market Street man Wednesday entered guilty pleas in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to charges of being a felon in illegal possession of a firearm, possession of heroin and possession of cocaine.

Leslie Howard, 29, is allowed to be free on bond until his sentencing, which has not been set. Prosecutors told Judge Maureen Sweeney they did not oppose Howard being free until his sentencing, and they also said they will stand silent at his sentencing.

Howard was arrested by Youngstown police March 1 after a short vehicle and foot chase on Broadview Avenue on the North Side. Reports said police found a 9 mm semiautomatic handgun Howard tossed onto the ground while he was running and drugs were later found in the car.

OD victim dumped

YOUNGSTOWN

For the second time in a week, police and paramedics treated a person for a suspected drug overdose who was dropped off on a South Side street. Police were called about 12:50 a.m. Wednesday to West Glenaven Avenue for a woman passed out on the ground. She was revived by paramedics and taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital. On Monday, a man was treated for a drug overdose on the same street for a heroin overdose. He was also taken to St. Elizabeth.

Multiple vehicle thefts

Numerous thefts from vehicles were reported this week near Nellbert Lane, off Indianola Road, according to police reports. One resident reported someone had gone through her vehicle and stolen bicycles from an unattached garage Tuesday. Another reported someone had entered their unlocked vehicle and removed some loose change that same day. A resident of Canterbury Lane, which is nearby, reported his vehicle had been ransacked Tuesday. Another Nellbert resident told police at about 1:15 a.m. Wednesday someone had tried to enter his vehicle and his home’s security lights had been tripped.

Drug equipment found

D’Auntai Boss, 23, of Burton Street, is in the Trumbull County jail in lieu of $100,000 bond, charged with two counts of aggravated drug trafficking and one of being a felon in illegal possession of a firearm.

Not-guilty pleas were entered for him Wednesday morning in Warren Municipal Court. He was charged Tuesday when the Warren Police Street Crimes Unit conducted a raid 527 Washington St. NE.

Police entered the home with a search warrant, finding Boss in the living room.

They also found stolen handguns, more than 100 grams of suspected crack cocaine, digital scales, ammunition, about $600 in cash, packing material, new syringes, a surveillance system and numerous prescription pills. One hundred grams is about a quarter of a pound.

Two other people who arrived later, Brittany R. Hudson, 24, of Lilburne Drive, Youngstown, and Daniel E. Dicks, 37, of Raymond Avenue, also were arrested on warrants.

Meeting rescheduled

The meeting of the governing board of Mahoning County Educational Service Center, scheduled for 4:30 today has been canceled. The meeting is rescheduled to 4:30 p.m. June 22 at 7320 N. Palmyra Road.

Kidnapping sentence

WARREN

Robert B. Leasock, 44, of Grant Street in Niles, pleaded guilty Wednesday in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court to kidnapping and was sentenced to six years in prison. Weathersfield police said the kidnapping involved Leasock and another man abducting a man from a location in Niles last Oct. 1 and taking him to a home on Barcelona Avenue in Weathersfield Township, where they assaulted him. The next day, they took the victim back to his home in Niles and released him, police said.

Stop signs in Struthers

City council voted Wednesday to place stop signs in all directions at the intersection of Katherine Street, Wetmore Drive and Center Street.

The city will also install a blinking red light to slow traffic. Councilman Robert Burnside, D-3, said the stop light at the intersection is not sufficient. “There’s too many accidents there,” Burnside said. “People try to run the light all the time.”

Woman given Narcan

AUSTINTOWN

Paramedics revived a woman from a suspected overdose early Tuesday.

Officers were called to a Woodledge Drive address when the homeowner saw a 63-year-old woman who lives there lying unconscious and he was unable to wake her. Paramedics administered three doses of Narcan, to which she responded. Police found a box containing white residue on a plastic bag and plastic straw and a 10 mg pill of oxymorphone near her. The homeowner said the woman has a history of crushing and snorting pills.
