‘Journey to Ohio’ to kick off summer stock season

Kent State Trumbull Theatre’s summer stock season will begin this week with “Journey to Ohio: Or, A Connecticut Belle,” written and directed by Mahoning Valley resident Jim Canacci.

This historical play, based upon contemporary journals, diaries and letters, tells the story of Margaret VanHorn Dwight’s journey from New Haven, Conn., to Warren in the year 1810. It takes a family-friendly approach to sharing the history of Ohio.

Performances will take place at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and again June 23 and 24; and 3 p.m. Sunday and June 25. The theater is on the Trumbull campus at 4314 Mahoning Ave. NW. For information and reservations, call the box office at 330-675-8887.

The flagship musical of the season will be “Disney’s Little Mermaid,” produced in cooperation with Millennial Theatre Company. Show dates are July 20-23 and 27-30.

The summer stock troupe also will present “The Brementown Musicians” at libraries throughout the Valley. Admission to the family-friendly show will be free.
