Canfield Township trustees mull a moratorium on medical marijuana

CANFIELD

Canfield Township is leaning toward a moratorium on medical-marijuana facilities, said Brian Governor, chairman of the township trustees.

“We’ve discussed the possibility of putting a one-year moratorium on it while everyone’s getting a handle on what’s going on,” Governor said.

The matter was the topic of discussion at Tuesday’s trustee meeting. Governor anticipates action at the following meeting.

Other places are better suited to a potential business than Canfield, Governor said, as a majority of the township does not have a municipal water system.

He added that areas such as Campbell and Youngstown, which are open to hosting facilities, have plenty of existing buildings that could house a medical-marijuana business.

Also at Tuesday’s meeting, the trustees approved a $134,472 loan to purchase a plow truck.

“We had one that spit the bit this past winter, so we had to act,” Governor said.

The 2018 International plow truck will give the county five operational trucks.
