KeyBank Pavilion is FarmAid site

BURGETTSTOWN, Pa.

Organizers have announced that the annual Farm Aid benefit concert is returning to Pennsylvania.

This year’s festival is set for Sept. 16 at KeyBank Pavilion, an outdoor amphitheater in Burgettstown, about 25 miles west of Pittsburgh.

It marks the third time it’s being held in the state since it began in 1985. It was held in Hershey in 2012 and in Burgettstown in 2002.

Performers this year include Farm Aid board members Willie Nelson, John Mellencamp, Neil Young and Dave Matthews with Tim Reynolds. Other acts include Jack Johnson, The Avett Brothers, Sheryl Crow, Jamey Johnson, Blackberry Smoke, Valerie June, Lukas Nelson & Promise of the Real and Insects vs Robots.

Tickets go on sale June 23, although some presale tickets are available starting today.

Cheech & Chong at Nelson Ledges

GARRETTSVILLE

Freedom Fest 2017, featuring famed comedy duo Cheech & Chong on July 1 and Rusted Root on June 30, will take place Fourth of July weekend at Nelson Ledges Quarry Park. The event will include fireworks July 1. Other performers include Carlos Jones and the P.L.U.S. Band, the Derek Woods Band, Dragondeer, John Welton and more. Admission is $120 ($100 presale) for Friday through Sunday (includes camping). Go to nlqp.com.

Summer day camps at history center

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society will present two summer day camps at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 W. Federal St., downtown.

Camps run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. The cost is $100 for MVHS members and $125 for nonmembers. Preregistration is required for both camps. Call 330-743-2589 or email education@mahoninghistory.org for information and to register. Here is the schedule:

July 10-4: My Town, Your Town, for age 8 to 12. Explore 10,000 years of history in five days with field trips, activities and camper-driven projects.

July 24-28: Young Historians, for age 12 to 15. Dive a bit deeper into local history and learn what it’s like to be a real historian, all while completing a special project, such as a website, video or exhibit about a local history topic.
