POLICE CALLS

A summary of recent criminal activity in Poland and Boardman townships:

POLAND

June 8

Theft by deception: A Heatherbrae Drive woman told officers eight $500 gift cards were stolen.

Theft: A Camella Drive woman reported a check of hers had been stolen and cashed for $4,931.

June 9

Aggravated menacing: A woman told police she had been threatened at her Bedford Road residence.

BOARDMAN

June 7

Counterfeit: A pregnant woman in a black dress and sandals reportedly used two phony $100 bills in an effort to buy a stereo from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive, before leaving in a sport utility vehicle. Also, a man wearing a Los Angeles Dodgers baseball cap reportedly used two fake $100 bills to buy a computer router, a Cleveland Cavaliers T-shirt and a pair of shorts from the big-box store.

Indecency: Several employees with a U.S. Route 224 pet store told police a disgruntled customer exposed himself to them.

Theft: Kristin L. Dota, 51, of Leighton Avenue, Boardman, surrendered on a theft charge after a June 6 shoplifting situation at La Ti Da Boutique, 850 E. Western Reserve Road, in which a necklace and two shirts were taken.

Robbery: Rhonda M. Hardy, 25, of Hudson Avenue, Youngstown, was charged with robbery and obstructing official business after a worker for Family Dollar, 4026 South Ave., reported a woman intending to rob the store claimed to have a gun in her backpack, then said she was forced to commit the crime or her boyfriend across the street would harm her and her children. No weapons were found in the backpack, however, a report showed.

Theft: A server with a Market Street restaurant noticed someone had taken her serving book that contained about $300.

Theft: The Ohio State Highway Patrol handed to township police Da’je-Auna L. Adams, 18, of Elruth Court, Girard, who was wanted on a theft charge, related to a Jan. 27 incident in which four people reportedly left Texas Roadhouse, 1221 Boardman-Poland Road, without paying their $102 food bill.

June 8

Arrest: A traffic stop on Market Street resulted in the arrest of Corinthians C. White of Parkwood Avenue, Youngstown, who was charged with obstructing official business. White, 19, provided a false name and date of birth, police said.

Assault: An Indianola Road woman reported seeing a large circular red mark on her grandson’s back before the grandson told police a juvenile had tossed a lit cigar at him, leaving a burn mark near the victim’s abdomen.

Possible theft: A Salem woman said a prescription was lost or stolen as she visited a Tiffany Boulevard doctor’s office.

Misuse of a credit card: An official with Lowe’s, 1100 Doral Drive, discovered an online order for two chain saws and two pressure washers had been made with a credit card that later was found to be fraudulent.

Domestic violence: Weathersfield Township police handed to Boardman authorities Deandre D. Levy, 26, of Arden Avenue, Mineral Ridge. He was wanted on a felony charge, related to an April 24 situation in which his girlfriend, of Boardman, alleged Levy had thrown her against a front door and to the ground during an argument about their relationship.

Theft by deception: An Oregon Trail man who made an online inquiry about a job resume told authorities he received in the mail a $1,850 check from Danville, Va., before equipment was to be sent to his home, all of which led the man to believe the check, which he gave to police, was fraudulent.

Domestic violence: Authorities phone booked David T. Wright, 33, of Dupont Street, Youngstown, after a June 1 situation in which a Boardman woman alleged Wright had threatened to shoot her and her family after becoming upset that he was unable to see a child he and the accuser have in common.

Drugs: Joshua D. Dolin, 37, who listed addresses on East Auburndale Avenue in Youngstown and in Lorain, was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Market Street. He was wanted on a felony drug-possession charge from Lorain.

Arrest: After pulling him over near Meadowbrook Avenue, officers arrested Richard E. Martin, 21, of South Avenue, Boardman, upon discovering he was wanted on a Liberty Township warrant charging failure to appear in court.

Arrest: Authorities in the 200 block of Boardman-Canfield Road picked up Jonathan M. Como, 24, of Laurel Hills Lane, Canfield, who was wanted on a felony warrant from that city charging him with two counts of receiving stolen property.

June 9

Theft: A vehicle in the 7400 block of West Boulevard was found with a missing hubcap.

Theft: A woman reported about $1,500 worth of jewelry missing from her Lockwood Boulevard apartment.

Domestic violence: Macy V. Francis, 21, of Erskine Avenue, Boardman, was charged with the crime after her mother alleged that during a heated argument, Francis had threatened to stab her to death.

Theft: A female age 17 to 20 reportedly stole $260 worth of cosmetics from Ulta Beauty, 403 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: A Girard woman told officers several items that included her birth certificate were removed from her vehicle in the 90 block of Aylesboro Avenue.

Theft: Anthony W. Blalock, 34, of Melrose Avenue, Boardman, was charged with theft and drug abuse after having been accused of fleeing from Buffalo Wild Wings in Southern Park Mall without paying his $28 food bill. In addition, he had a small packet containing over-the-counter medication for which he was unable to produce a prescription, a report stated.

Identity theft: Authorities phone booked Cory N. Hall, 25, of Dunbar Avenue, Austintown, on one felony count each of receiving stolen property and identity theft as well as on a misdemeanor count of misuse of a credit card. Last month, an Irwin, Pa., woman discovered that while visiting a Salinas Trail residence, someone had removed her wallet from her unlocked vehicle and used her two debit cards to make $180 in fraudulent purchases.

Theft: Police charged Maria Stoianova, 25, and Serhii Klymenko, 26, both of South Avenue, Boardman, with the theft of $80 worth of jewelry and a $45 backpack from Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road.

Theft: Lisa M. Johnston, 37, of Elm Street, Struthers, and Arak E. Shumate, 36, of Greenup, Ky., were charged in the theft of $98 worth of property, including a men’s T-shirt, from Kohl’s. Johnston also faced charges of possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia when, authorities alleged, she had suspected drug contraband in her purse.

Theft: Someone entered an unlocked car in the 1200 block of Boardman-Canfield Road and removed a $20,000 medical device.

June 10

Arrest: Kurtis A. Materna, 37, was taken into custody during a traffic stop on Market Street. Materna, of East Fifth Street, Salem, faced a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.

Misuse of a credit card: A Salem woman found out her credit card had been used to make $1,395 worth of fraudulent transactions at a Southern Park Mall store.

Possible theft: A dealer license plate was lost or stolen at a South Avenue used-car business.

Theft: While investigating a possible domestic-violence situation at a Valley View Drive residence, police arrested Joel L. Baker, 31, of Valley View, Boardman, on a theft warrant. He was accused of stealing a $30 electronic device March 8 from Walmart.

Theft: A 17-year-old Youngstown girl was accused of taking a pair of New York Yankees socks from Touchdown Gifts and More in Southern Park Mall.

Domestic violence: Harry G. Baker Jr. 56, of Valley View Drive, Boardman, was taken into custody on a warrant after his son alleged Baker had shoved him, causing injuries to the accuser’s back, during an argument related to a pack of cigarettes.

June 11

Burglary: To a residence in the 6700 block of Tanglewood Drive, though police found no signs of forced entry. More than $15,000 worth of jewelry was taken.

Domestic violence: William H. Workman, 79, of Hitchcock Road, Boardman, was charged after his daughter alleged Workman had twice grabbed her around the neck and pushed her onto a couch during an argument about the condition of the home.

Misuse of a credit card: A Struthers woman learned her stolen credit card had been used at two township locations to rack up $71.50 worth of fraudulent activity.

Burglary: Authorities responded to a burglary in progress to a Boardman-Poland Road apartment, where they charged Keith W. Richards, 24, of East Parkcliffe Drive, Struthers, with burglary. Two neighbors had called 911, reportedly as he broke a window and entered the apartment, a report showed.

Harassment: A customer reportedly called a Boardman-Poland Road restaurant to harass several workers after having been dissatisfied with her meal.

Menacing: The owner of a Boardman-Canfield Road bistro told police he found on his pickup truck a note that contained an unveiled threat.

Criminal damaging: Someone apparently used a pellet gun to damage a window pane to a home in the 700 block of Oakridge Drive. Damage was estimated at $1,000.

Domestic violence: Nell M. Nester, 82, of West Woodland Avenue, Youngstown, was charged after her daughter alleged that during an argument at a Boardman laundry facility, Nester had grabbed her hair.
