The Center for Physical Health will have another free workshop for athletes at 7 p.m. next Tuesday that will focus on learning the proper techniques of stretching and self-mobilization. The class will be led by Marybeth Romeo at the Center for Physical Health, located at 4137 Boardman-Canfield Road, Suite 104.

The Intro to Stretching and Self-Mobilization Techniques Workshop will focus on learning muscle energy techniques. Romeo, a licensed physical therapist, triathlete and owner of the Center for Physical Health, hopes to provide runners with a series of relaxation and stretching techniques for precise tight, shortened, contracted and painful muscles.

Attendees will learn what muscles are most likely to cause issues based on their running type and style. Registration should be made before Monday. People will be admitted at the door pending available space, however.

NILES

Board-certified Naturopath Dannielle MacDuff is accepting registrations for her series on herbs offered at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 22, June 29 and July 6 at the ETI Technical College, 2076 Youngstown-Warren Road (U.S. Route 422) in Niles.

Two year certification

LISBON

The Columbiana County Health Department is offering health care provider cardiopulmonary resuscitation and AED from 9 a.m. to noon July 1 at the health department offices at 7360 state Route 45. Taught by Cecelia Hrovatic, a registered nurse and American Heart Association instructor, the class includes a two-year certification. The cost is $50 per person. Medical collection

Mercy Health-Youngstown has joined the ranks of Mahoning Valley organizations that offer collection sites for the disposal of unwanted medications by introducing medication-disposal drop boxes at its St. Elizabeth Youngstown, St. Elizabeth Boardman and St. Joseph Warren hospitals.

People can use the receptacles in the emergency departments in the public entrance/lobby area to dispose of these medications: legal, prescription and over-the-counter medications, and fluid medications less than 4 ounces or 120 milligrams.

Items that cannot be disposed of in the receptacles are illicit, illegal or dangerous substances such as inhalers, nasal sprays, nonmedical or hazardous chemicals such as household cleaners; fluid medications more than 4 ounces or 120 milligrams; sharps, needles or syringes; batteries; aerosol cans and medical devices, such as glucometers and blood-pressure cuffs.

Positive parenting

YOUNGSTOWN

Parents of children age 3 to 8 are invited to join Alta Behavioral Healthcare professionals for a group series on positive ways to parent their children.

Free weekly classes are offered as part of Alta’s Incredible Years Early Childhood Parent Group, which is supported by the Mahoning County Mental Health and Recovery Board and Whole Child Matters Grant.

Classes run from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Aug. 1 at Alta Behavioral Healthcare, 711 Belmont Ave.
