The Austintown Farmers Market is beginning its summer season from 5 to 8 p.m. today in Austintown Township Park, 6000 Kirk Road.

Farmers Market vendors and crafters will offer family-friendly events including the Pop-Up Library, face-painting, kids crafts, identi-kits, a healthy cooking demonstration at 5:15 p.m., free yoga on the green at 6 p.m. and live music. Dinner options are offered by Cast Iron & Lace, and All About the Pawz will bring adoptable dogs.

Other services and vendors include: Big City Tailgate, Briganti’s Botanical Bliss, Crystal Dragon, DAV, Dough House Cookies, Faith Seed Farm, Fit Team, Eleanor Jane Jewelry, Goodness Grows, Grass N Grace Farm, Hickman Family Maple Syrup, Jack’s Mountain Orchard, Jackson Maters, Jego Headbands, Kettle Corn (Bestal Concessions), Maple Leaf Acres, Moe’s Private Reserve - Fine Spice Co., Shaved Ice (Chick and Dude Concessions), Smith-Built Handyman, Truffle Laboratory, Young Living Essential Oils and Zimmerman Farms.

Water-quality event set at MetroParks Farm

Concerned local organizations will come together to teach residents and landowners about watersheds and water quality from 4:30 to 8:30 p.m. June 22 at the Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road.

Family-oriented features of the event include hayrides, drone and pond demonstrations, a chance to see farm equipment up-close, a composting seminar by the Green Team, the animal area at the farm and a pop-up library.

Garden demonstrations, including soil testing and soil amendments, also will be featured.

Event co-sponsors include the Mahoning County Farm Bureau, Eastgate Regional Council of Governments, Ohio State University Extension Office here, the Mahoning Soil & Water Conservation District, the park district and Aqua Ohio.

Volunteer spots open on Trumbull board

The Trumbull County commissioners are again notifying the public of several open volunteer positions on several of its top boards of directors.

There is an open position on the county planning commission, three open positions on the Senior Services Advistory Council and two on the Mental Health and Recovery Board.

Anyone interested is asked to submit a letter of interest along with a resume to the Board of Trumbull County Commissioners, 160 High St. NW, Warren, OH 44481 by June 23.

Road closing for culvert replacement

Effective June 19, Barclay-Messerly Road will be closed, between Helsley Fusselman Road and U.S. Route 422, due to culvert replacement, said the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office. The closing will continue until July 7. The recommended detour route is east on Helsley Fusselman Road and northwest on Route 422.

Hosting Juneteenth

2 men charged in arson

LOWELLVILLE

Two men charged with arson in connection with a fire Saturday morning at Aluminum Color Industries, 369 West Wood St., are to be arraigned in Struthers Municipal Court today.

Facing aggravated-arson and breaking and entering charges are Joshua Foor, 20, and Geno Moore, 22. Foor also is charged with criminal damaging.

The fire was reported at 6:20 a.m., reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner.

Officials say the suspects broke into the building, set several fires, were trapped inside and called police claiming to be employees who couldn’t get out of the building, 21 WFMJ-TV reported.
