Man shoots teen, claims self-defense
YOUNGSTOWN
Police say a man in a home in the 900 block of Jacobs Road is claiming self-defense after an 18-year-old man was wounded outside his home late Wednesday.
Reports said officers were called to the East Side home just before midnight and found shell casings and shattered glass in the road and driveway. Officers were informed when they arrived that the victim was dropped off at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Chief of Detectives Capt. Brad Blackburn said a group of men in a car stopped at the home and argued with the homeowner, who told police the men in the car were armed, so he fired his gun in self-defense.
Detectives are investigating. The victim was wounded in the shoulder, Blackburn said.
Woman faces robbery charges
BOARDMAN
A Youngstown woman is charged with robbery and obstructing official business in connection with an incident reported at Family Dollar on South Avenue on Wednesday.
According to a police report, a store employee said that a woman with a hooded sweatshirt pulled tightly around her face entered the store, stood by the counter until other customers left, then said, “I am here to rob you, and I have a gun in my backpack.”
The employee reportedly told the woman that wasn’t going to happen, set off the alarm and called 911.
Police arrested Rhonda Hardy, 25, of Hudson Avenue. The obstructing official business charge stems from Hardy giving officers incorrect information, police said.
Trial date set for Girard teacher
GIRARD
The trial date for a Girard teacher accused of disorderly conduct has been reset for July 20.
Police charged Daniel J. Nagle Jr., 39, of Struthers with a fourth-degree misdemeanor in October after being called to the school Sept. 27.
Jennifer Santangelo, junior high-school principal, told officers Nagle had acted in a threatening manner toward her during an argument. School disciplinary records indicate Santangelo had written up Nagle for tardiness. According to a police report, after the argument, Nagle told another teacher he “was going to get her,” referring to Santangelo.
Nagle’s case had originally been set for trial Thursday in Girard Municipal Court. He entered a not-guilty plea last year.
The district placed him on paid administrative leave.
