Public art project at YSU seeks entries

Staff report

YOUNGSTOWN

Regional artists can express their version of happiness in a public art project that will be displayed at the Summer Festival of the Arts at Youngstown State University July 8 and 9.

Titled “Frame Your Happiness,” the project is sponsored by the SFA and the Power of the Arts initiative.

Here are the guidelines:

Artists may be professional or amateur.

Each piece must be within a frame, which could be made of any material, no smaller than 8 inches by 10 inches and no larger than 20 inches by 24 inches. Both the interior and exterior of the frame may be used.

Works may be two-dimensional or three-dimensional.

Only family friendly artwork will be accepted.

One submission per person will be accepted.

Please note that the artwork may be exposed to wind and rain.

“This project takes the emotion of happiness, and encourages artists to visually represent their feelings,” said Lori Factor, SFA director. “It also allows people who are not artists by profession, but who love to create, the opportunity to participate in the Summer Festival of the Arts.”

Karen Schubert, Power of the Arts coordinator, noted that “while the arts often ask us to consider darker themes, this cheerful project will be uplifting.”

More information, including drop-off times and other guidelines, are on a printable brochure available at ysu.edu/sfa.
