BOARDMAN
Two Youngstown teenagers face charges in connection with car break-ins reported in the township.
According to a police report, officers responded to Arden Boulevard about 1 a.m. Tuesday after a resident reported seeing two males walking through her yard. A Shelby Road resident also flagged down police to report he believed the males had attempted to break into his home and vehicle.
Police then located Tyler Sharpless, 19, and a 16-year-old boy nearby.
Police found knives on both of them. They also reportedly found cash, female birth-control pills, vodka, rum, a shot glass, an eyeglasses case, another knife, phone chargers, headphones, mail with other people’s names on it, cologne, a lighter, a hair comb, an energy-drink bottle with the 16-year-old’s name written on it, an empty pain-pill bottle and other items in Sharpless’ backpack.
They found an electrical fuse, stocking cap, vehicle manual and CD on the other teen suspect.
Although Sharpless at first denied stealing any of the items, he reportedly confessed entering multiple unlocked vehicles in the township and along Midlothian in Youngstown. He told police he and the other suspect had filled up a backpack together.
The 16-year-old denied any wrongdoing.
Sharpless faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon, receiving stolen property, underage possession of alcohol, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and possession of drugs.
The 16-year-old faces misdemeanor charges of receiving stolen property, underage consumption of alcohol, carrying a concealed weapon, and criminal trespassing.
