Staples to close

Staples to close

BOARDMAN

Another local big-box retailer is closing its doors in Boardman. The Staples retailer on Doral Drive will close permanently July 8.

Electronics retailer HH Gregg, formerly off U.S. Route 224 in Boardman, closed in April.

A statement issued by the company said the closure was part of “aggressive action” to “right-size” their retail footprint in the face of consumers continuing to shift to online retailers.

Staples locations in Niles and Hermitage, Pa., will remain open.

Urgent-care facility to open

BOARDMAN

The Youngstown Orthopaedic Associates have opened an orthopedic-focused urgent-care facility at 1499 Boardman-Canfield Road.

The new center focuses on sports injuries, workers’ compensation injuries, fractures, sprains, dislocations and injuries involving muscles, bones or joints. The center also offers X-Ray and MRI services.

Only patients 13 and older can be served at the center.

The facility is open from noon until 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. The center is closed Sundays.

Hine Memorial to award grant

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Foundation’s Hine Memorial Fund will award a $500,000 grant at 9 a.m. Wednesday to Potential Development School for Students with Autism to purchase and renovate a building and expand its services.

Potential Development purchased the former Anthem building, 2400 Market St., across the street from its high school. Elementary and middle-school classes will move to the newly acquired building after it is renovated, freeing up 11 classrooms at Potential Development’s 880 E. Indianola Ave. building to expand its preschool offerings.
