Contents of syringe empties near officer
WARREN
Liquid from a drug syringe accidentally shot out in the direction of a police officer investigating a drug overdose Friday.
The officer said the syringe appeared to be spring-loaded. He didn’t know if any of the liquid contacted his skin, but he said he did not notice any effects from it.
The officer went to the Burger King on Main Avenue Southwest at 2 p.m. for an overdosed male. Thomas A. LeMasters Jr., 25, of West Jay Street in Newton Falls was on his back in the men’s restroom. His mother was giving him mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, and he regained consciousness. He was taken by ambulance to Trumbull Memorial Hospital.
The woman said she was taking Lemasters to drug rehab when he asked to use the restroom. When he didn’t come out, she found him on the floor.
The liquid came out after the officer picked up the syringe, which was under Lemasters. LeMasters is set for arraignment today on possessing drug-abuse instruments.
Historic home destroyed
WEST FARMINGTON
No one was injured, but a home built in the 1860s or earlier was destroyed by a Sunday morning fire that authorities believe started as a result of one or more lightning strikes. The home is just west of the village and about a mile from the Geauga County line.
Jon Bland, Farmington Township fire chief, said a male resident called 911 at 10:44 a.m. after seeing smoke coming from the first floor of the home shortly after waking up to “cracks of thunder.”
The male, who was the only person home, got himself and two dogs out of the home safely. The fire department arrived less than five minutes later, but the fire had progressed heavily through the home, Bland said.

WARREN
The man apprehended early Friday in an attempted robbery at the North End Market on North Park Avenue was identified as being 17 from Forest and Oak streets.
The male was charged in juvenile court with attempted robbery after workers at the store called 911 because they could see someone standing outside of the store wearing a mask, and believed they were about to get robbed. The male police arrested had a blue bandanna around his neck and a BB gun in his pants.
Woman hit by soup can
WARREN
A 23-year-old city woman reported a man threw a can of soup at her from about 15 feet away, hitting her in the head at 4 p.m. Sunday at a house on Front Street. The man also kicked her in the head, legs and stomach, she said. Police interviewed her at Trumbull Memorial Hospital, where she received a CAT scan and X-ray, police said.
The woman’s mother said she picked up the victim at the Front Street residence and noticed her eyes didn’t look right, and the victim complained of being sick. The victim had bumps on her head, her mother said.
