Achievement award

Alex Geordan, superintendent of Canfield schools, was awarded the American Heart Association’s Distinguished Achievement Award.

Geordan was recognized for encouraging local school districts to become involved with AHA school programs. Canfield Local Schools raised $40,000 for the AHA this school year.

Geordan is a member of the AHA Youngstown board of directors.

Chief of Police award

Vincent D’Egidio, police chief of the village of New Middletown, received the Crisis Intervention Team Chief of Police award for 2017 in Columbus on Friday.

He was nominated by his officers in May. D’Egidio requires all department officers to be CIT certified with training on how to handle and respond to crisis with mentally ill individuals.

2 accounting awards

David Stout, the John S. and Doris M. Andrews Endowed Chairman of Accounting in the Williamson College of Business Administration, received two awards at the 2017 Ohio Regional meeting of the American Accounting Association, AAA.

Stout received the Ohio AAA President’s Award for Exemplary Lifetime Service to the Region for his 14 years of service to the Ohio AAA.

The title of the award-winning paper was “Shining Additional Light on Effective Teaching Best Practices in Accounting: Self-Reflective Insights from recent Cook Prize Winners.” The paper will be published in the August issue of Issues in Accounting Education.

Diamond Coach

Eric Simione, Boardman High School’s former speech team director, has earned the National Speech & Debate Association Diamond Coach Award, which recognizes excellence and longevity as a coach. Simione was one of 33 coaches from across the country to win the award.

Simione was inducted in the Speech Association Hall of Fame in 2008. This marks his fourth time winning Diamond Coach status.

Simione was recognized by the board of education at its May meeting.
