Kids programs set at Munnell Run Farm

MERCER, PA.

Munnell Run Farm, 24 Avalon Court, is hosting kids’ programs on Tuesdays this summer.

The programs are designed for children age 5 to 7. Each program has a different focus that highlights unique aspects of Munnell Run Farm. Register by Friday before the class. The programs cost $5 per program.

If adults pre-register and pre-pay for all five programs by Friday, you get a reduced rate of $4 per program.

Classes will run from 8 to 11:30 a.m. and are designed to be interactive and engaging with a story time, activities, outdoor adventures, snacks and crafts. Classes are:

June 13: “Down on the Farm,” a program to give children a taste of life on the farm. Children will learn about the many farm animals and the products that come from them. A wagon ride through the fields will follow with the grand finale of homemade ice cream.

June 27: “Let It Grow, Let It Grow,” kids will learn about the many different crops and vegetables farmers raise and what they are used for. Participants will make a greenhouse in a small bag and have the opportunity to take home their newly planted seed in a bag.

July 11: “Wetland Wonders,” an interactive program about wetlands. Participants will explore the many creatures that call wetlands home. Be sure to wear old clothes and waterproof footwear.

Aug. 1: “Food Chains and Food Webs,” an interactive program about ecosystems and food chains. The concepts of food chains and how energy flows will be explored and brought to life through engaging activities. Be sure to wear old clothes and waterproof footwear.

Aug. 15: “The Miracle of Butterflies,” a program that highlights the miracles of butterflies. Children will explore the unique life cycle of a butterfly by designing a pasta craft, then search the fields for the famed Monarch caterpillars they can take home to raise. The program will end with a pollination snack. Be sure to dress in long pants and shoes for the fields.
