WARREN
The city had an armed robbery Thursday and an attempted armed robbery early Friday, bringing the total to 10 armed robberies in the past month.
Police Chief Eric Merkel said Friday there has been a spike in such crimes, and a detective is working on them.
Police arrested a juvenile outside the North End Market on North Park Avenue at 12:03 a.m. Friday after employees called 911 to say someone was standing in the back of the store wearing a mask.
When officers arrived, they found a juvenile male near the store who had a BB gun in his pants and a blue bandanna around his neck.
After viewing surveillance footage of the male, they took him to the juvenile justice center, charged with attempted robbery. A police report did not give the juvenile’s name, age or address.
The same store was robbed at 11:30 p.m. May 14 by a male who had a gun and wore a mask.
At 6:55 p.m. Thursday, a man with blond hair, red hat and plaid shirt in his late 20s to early 30s walked into the Subway restaurant on Parkman Road and demanded money while saying he had a gun under his shirt.
He got about $375 from the register and ran south on Parkman.
Data from the Warren Police Department show police have investigated 10 armed robberies between May 2 and Friday.
