YBI has 2 upcoming additive manufacturing events

The Youngstown Business Incubator has two events this week with the goal of bringing more additive manufacturing business here.

The first event is for a kickoff and fundraiser for the I-YBI Collaborative. The collaborative’s goal is to bring additive manufacturing companies from Israel to the area.

“Really, it could be catalytic to get a few of these companies making investments here,” said Barb Ewing, chief executive officer of YBI. “The Israeli market is so small. They know if they are going to be successful, they have to launch here. We would be a good launching pad to deploy in the North American market.”

Ewing went to Israel in January and met with several companies. The incubator is still in contact with three of them. One is a software company, another is a material company with material that can be used in additive manufacturing and the third is in equipment manufacturing that makes a high-end metal printer.

The I-YBI Collaborative event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the incubator’s new building at Boardman Street and Vindicator Square. Those interested in attending should contact Colleen Kelly, director of development for YBI, at ckelly@ybi.org or 330-599-4505.

On Thursday, the NEO Additive Manufacturing Cluster’s quarterly meeting focused on tooling applications for additive manufacturing will take place.

The $25 meeting will run from 8:30 a.m. to noon with lunch following at the Brecksville Community Center on One Community Center in Brecksville.

The purpose of the cluster is to create a clear vision for the integration of the additive manufacturing supply chain in Northeast Ohio.

“The work of the cluster is to start developing programs and to create opportunities for collaboration,” Ewing said. “This particular meeting is on industrial applications for additive manufacturing.”
