BOARDMAN

A project that started small turned into a full makeover of Boardman High School’s girls’ locker room for varsity basketball and volleyball players.

Funded through private donations, the locker room has approximately $9,500 worth of new equipment and features. Project leaders hosted an open house Thursday night to show off the finished results.

New features include: a flat-screen TV, an Apple TV, basketball dry-erase boards, new paint, a mural painted by National Honor Society members, new flooring, granite table with laser etching of Boardman Spartans, a sign honoring former teacher/coach Christine Moschella Terlesky, a storage organizer and customized basketball.

Along with private donations, Home Depot, Muscle Connection, Landis Floors, Signature Granite Co. and Creative Laser Solutions donated items.

“We have many 4.0 students, National Honor Society members and leaders at BHS,” said assistant varsity coach Justin Coffin. “The girls spend so much time in the gym and locker room before and after school at practice, as well as studying, from late October through early March.”

He said he envisions the room as “a comfortable, relaxing environment that they can use to study, watch film on future opponents, prepare for games and just be a home away from home.”
