David W. Robinson of Youngstown was indicted Thursday by a Mahoning County grand jury on a felony charge after admitting he killed his pet cat. According to 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner, Robinson is the first Mahoning County resident to be charged with violating Goddard’s Law, a state law which prohibits harming companion animals.
2 unconscious in crash
BROOKFIELD
A two-vehicle crash Thursday afternoon at the intersection of state Routes 7 and 82 left a passenger in each vehicle unconscious, according to the Trumbull County 911 Center. The crash occurred shortly after 1 p.m., causing two vehicles to go over an embankment. The cause of the crash, which caused portions of Routes 82 and 7 and other roads to be temporarily closed, is under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol. The condition of the injured people is unknown.
Arrested after fleeing
WARREN
Savanha Cofield, 20, of Linden Drive, was arrested Wednesday after police said she fled from them in a car for six minutes starting at the Jamestown Plaza on Mahoning Avenue. At 8:17 p.m., an officer saw Cofield in Giant Eagle and thought she had an active warrant. He asked her if she was Savanha Cofield, and she denied it. She got in her car and drove away. The officer followed her in his cruiser as she nearly drove into pedestrians and other vehicles and ignored traffic lights and stop signs multiple times. She was arrested at the Avon Oaks apartment complex on Southern Boulevard. Charges of felony failure to comply and misdemeanor falsification and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle were filed at Warren Municipal Court, where she will be arraigned today.
Free meals for kids

Free meals will be available this summer at Austintown Elementary School to children 18 or younger through the district’s Summer Food Service Program for Children. The program runs from Monday through Aug. 18 with breakfast served from 7:45 to 9 a.m. and lunch, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Adults determined mentally or physically disabled by a state or local public educational agency may also receive meals.
BP station robbed

A male wearing a ski mask pointed a gun at the clerks at the BP gas station on East Market Street at 12:40 a.m. Thursday and made them get on the floor as he fled on foot, a police report says. He got about $200 in cash. A man also reported being robbed and stabbed at gunpoint on York Street at 2:30 a.m. Wednesday by men wearing masks. Other recent armed robberies occurred at the Family Dollar at 9 a.m. Sunday, at Vine Avenue and Washington Street at 12:50 p.m. May 25, on the bike trail May 23 and on Idlylwild Street and at the Lit’l Mac Food Store on Parkman Road on May 22.
Gunfire at house
WARREN
Gunfire erupted at a house on Forrest Street at 10:45 p.m. Wednesday over a person parking in the wrong driveway, but apparently no one suffered a gunshot wound. A man living in the 200 block reported that people in a gray Pontiac G6 pulled into his driveway, but the car should have parked in the neighbor’s driveway, and he told the driver that, the victim said. It led to a fight between him and the driver, the victim said. The people in the car then started firing shots at the resident and another man in the driveway.
Neither man was hit, but the resident had injuries to his nose and face, police said. The other victim had bloodied knuckles. No bullet shell casings were found, police said.
Family fun night

Poland schools will host a family fun night at 5 p.m. today at the high school stadium featuring bounce-a-rounds, face-painting, games, caricatures, a 50/50 raffle and food vendors. The night will end with a movie under the stars. Admission is $5. Proceeds will go toward medical expenses for graduating senior Gabriella Hryb.
