Staff report

The Youngstown Playhouse has announced “Greater Tuna” as its final production of the 2016-2017 Griffith-Adler Actor Series. The popular comedy written by Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard, will play two weekends in the theater in the Moyer Room, June 9 through June 17.

The play features Joanna Andrei, Candace DiLullo, Cyndi Plyler and Denise Sculli. The production is directed by Pat Foltz.

“Greater Tuna” is set in the fictional town of Tuna, Texas, the “third-smallest” town in the state. The original play was written as affectionate satire on small-town southern life and attitudes, this production will utilize non-traditional casting, as four actresses play the entire cast of over twenty eccentric characters of both genders and various ages.

“Greater Tuna” debuted in Austin, Texas, in the fall of 1981, and had its off-Broadway premiere in 1982. This is the first Youngstown Playhouse production of the show in more than 20 years.
