VIENNA

Sodom Hutchings Road, approximately one mile south of King Graves Road, will be closed Monday through June 23 for culvert replacement, said the Trumbull County Engineer’s Office. The recommended detour route is east on King Graves, south on Warner Road and west on Warren Sharon Road.

Man stabbed in attack

WARREN

A 32-year-old city man was treated at Trumbull Memorial Hospital for a “severe laceration,” including stab wounds to his hands, arms and thigh, in a 2:30 a.m. attack Wednesday on York Street Northwest.

The man said he was walking on York near West Market, when four males in masks pulled up in a smaller black sport utility vehicle. Three got out and attacked him. One had a knife.

He pushed them off as he ran away. The victim said he didn’t know why he was targeted, saying it might have been an attempted robbery. A passer-by picked him up as he walked and gave him a ride to the hospital.

Safety day planned

CRAIG BEACH

The Craig Beach fire department, 1797 Grandview Road, will host a free safety day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. The event will include activities for kids and free health screenings for cholesterol, glucose and blood pressure.

Reports list arson

YOUNGSTOWN

Fire reports said a blaze about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday at a vacant 804 E. Dewey Ave. home is an arson. Crews who were called to the South Side home found a heavy fire in the living room, reports said. Damage is listed at $5,000.

Lucky for Life winner

Ohio has its seventh 2nd-tier Lucky for Life winner. David Poole of East Liverpool matched all five numbers and no Lucky ball to win $25,000 a year for life May 22.

Poole picked the numbers and chose the cash option. After mandatory federal and state taxes totaling 29 percent, Poole receives a lump sum of $276,900. He’s been playing the same set of numbers since the game began in November 2015.

He says he’s giving his daughter and granddaughter some money and saving the rest for retirement.

The winning ticket was purchased at Four Seasons Mini Mart in East Liverpool. The store receives a $2,500 bonus for selling a winning 2nd-tier Lucky for Life ticket.

Benefit carnival set

A carnival to benefit Hannah’s Vision Inc. will take place today through Sunday at Eastwood Field.

Hannah’s vision is a nonprofit organization established to provide respite care to families living in Northeast Ohio that have children in treatment for brain tumors.

The organization was created by the parents of Hannah Tringhese, who was diagnosed in kindergarten with a large, inoperable tumor.

The carnival will have rides, a fireworks display Saturday night, a variety of food vendors, live bands, clowns, balloon animals and daily 50/50 raffle. Carnival times are from 6 to 11 p.m. today; 6 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday; and 1 to 11 p.m. Sunday.

Project Play progresses

Project Play, recreation for the children and families of the Highland Terrace apartments along Highland Avenue Southwest, is moving forward with a playground as its next phase.

The project began in 2016 with construction of a baseball field, followed by basketball courts, surveillance cameras and lighting.

Construction is expected to begin in early summer for the playground. Partners in Project play are Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Second Baptist Church, Swanton Charitable Trust, Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority and Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

“Our dream is becoming a reality, and I couldn’t be more appreciative for the strong partnership developed with TNP to award TMHA with the William Swanson Charitable grant,” said Sandra Kellar, Highland Terrace property manager.

Merchants Expo 2017

SHARON, PA.

Breath of Life Tabernacle will host “Christian Community Merchants Expo 2017” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Word Centered Presbyterian Fellowship Church, 710 Carnegie St.

The event is comprised of community vendors whose sole purpose is to come together to network, fellowship and support the expo. There is a cost of $20 for each vendor, and they are asked to present a gift basket, gift card or what represents them as a vendor to participate in the vendors’ runway show. A raffle gift will be given to an event attendee. The expo entry fee is $7.
