Woman charged in stabbing in Niles

NILES

An argument between a man and a woman in the 500 block of Orchard Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Sunday led to the man being transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with a serious stab wound. The woman has been charged with felonious assault, according to police.

Body found in Warren

WARREN

Warren police are investigating a possible drowning after a man was found dead face down at the edge of the Mahoning River near the foot bridge by Packard Park just before 3 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Trumbull County 911 Center, the Trumbull County Coroner’s office approved removal of the body at about 4:20 p.m. The man’s name and age have not been released.

Adding customers

WARREN

Gary Newbrough, deputy Trumbull County sanitary engineer, says 43 more customers will be added to the Prosperity waterline project in the county’s western area after he notified them of the reduced cost to them.

The cost dropped after the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency agreed recently to increase its funding of the project from 50 percent to 75 percent.

The project, which will bring water from Newton Falls north through Braceville and Southington townships and into West Farmington, now has 283 customers, a 17-percent increase over the 240 customers previously.

Food orders sought

NILES

New Hope United Methodist Church, 21 Fairview Ave., is accepting orders for King Foods at the church with cash, check, money order or EBT Card from 11 a.m. to noon Aug. 14.

Orders also will be taken at Niles Community Services from 1:30 to 2:15 p.m. Aug. 14. Prices range from $27 to $44. There are no income restrictions or guidelines.

Mail orders will be accepted with payment by Aug. 11. Send payment to the church. Make checks payable to New Hope UM Church. To receive a receipt, enclose a self-addressed and stamped envelope. Online credit card orders will be taken through 10 a.m. Aug. 16. The online address is www.kingfoods.org.

Distribution will take place from 9 to 10 a.m. Aug. 26. There will be a free community breakfast served from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and the clothing room will be open.

Learn about disc golf

CHAMPION

The Trumbull County MetroParks is partnering with the Trumbull County Disc Golf Association to educate the public on disc golf at Clarence Darrow MetroPark on Educational Highway.

The free event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Discs will be available for use that day for free.

Hands-on history

YOUNGSTOWN

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society education staff is offering a free afternoon of fun at the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Learn about the Progress of the Mahoning Valley. Visitors will explore how the Mahoning Valley has changed, through the bad and the good times and where it is headed.

Zucchini project

Aug. 8 is “National Sneak Some Zucchini Onto Your Neighbor’s Porch Day” and Kent State University at Trumbull, Warren Family Mission and Second Harvest Food Bank of the Mahoning Valley hope local residents will help them celebrate.

The organizations want local growers with a surplus of summer squash and other produce to donate it to families in need.

The Trumbull County drop-off is Warren Family Mission, 155 Tod Ave. NW, Warren, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and the Mahoning County drop-off is from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Second Harvest, 2805 Salt Springs Road, Youngstown.
