Pedestrian hit

HOWLAND

A 70-year-old Burghill woman was seriously injured while walking across East Market Street just east of Brewster Drive at about 1 p.m. Saturday. The Ohio State Highway Patrol Warren Post said the woman, who was transported to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital, was struck by a vehicle traveling west on Market as she crossed from the south side. The driver, 58, of McDonald, was not injured. The OSHP noted a cross-walk was nearby, but the pedestrian was not in it. No charges were immediately filed. Howland police and fire departments responded.

I-76, -80 restrictions

YOUNGSTOWN

Beginning Monday, Interstate 76 over Lake Milton and Interstate 80 over Meander Reservoir will have daily lane restrictions between 6 a.m. and 4 p.m. until further notice. The Ohio Department of Transportation will repair and seal the bridges as part of a $2 million project to seal bridges in Northeast Ohio. The project is expected to be completed by December 2018.

A Day of Adventure on the Yellow Brick Trail, sponsored by The Yellow Brick Place Cancer Wellness Center, will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8 at Mill Creek MetroParks Farm, 7574 Columbiana-Canfield Road. The event is free for kids 6 to 12 who have family or friends dealing with cancer. A breakfast snack and lunch are provided. There will be interactives by OH WOW! The Roger & Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science & Technology, Butler Institute of American Art, Dr. Ray’s Amazing Sideshow of Science, Melnick Medical Museum, Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, Smith Mineral Museum and Ward Beecher Planetarium, a tour of the farm’s animals and a drum circle. The National McKinley Birthplace Memorial will feature a free presentation and discussion of the history of the Ku Klux Klan in the city from Ralph Tolbert and Sandy Bilovesky of Niles Historical Society at 1 p.m. Aug. 26. The event is part of the memorial’s Centennial Speaker program. The KKK arose during the Reconstruction period after the Civil War, then re-emerged with the large influx of immigrants during the early part of the 20th century.
