Staff report

WARREN

The Trumbull County Historical Society will host historian Clayton Ruminski as part of its Sunday speaker series at 2 p.m. Aug. 6 at the John Stark Edwards Museum, 303 Monroe St. NW, home of the society.

Ruminski is the author of “Iron Valley: The Transformation of the Iron Industry in Ohio’s Mahoning Valley, 1802-1913.”

Ruminski is from Hubbard and is the archival specialist at Hagley Museum and Library in Delaware. He will speak on the history of the Mahoning Valley’s iron industry.

A graduate of Youngstown State University and a well-known voice in local industrial heritage, Ruminski will set the stage for how the Valley developed into one of the country’s largest industrial and manufacturing centers.

Meghan Reed, Trumbull Historical Society director, said, “This part of our history still affects many Trumbull County residents, and it is important for all of us to understand why the Valley had its ‘boom and bust’ and what started the trajectory.”

Copies of “Iron Valley” will be for sale to be signed after the presentation. The program is free, and no registration is required. Light refreshments will be served.

John Stark Edwards House and the Trumbull County Museum are open to the public for free tours from 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.
