Aggravated menacing: A worker for a California Avenue business alleged a former employee threatened to blow up the company and harm her, apparently after having become upset about being removed from the schedule.
Fraud: The owners of a former restaurant in Southern Park Mall alleged an associate had stolen two business checks and tried to cash them for $112,000.
Menacing: A Cook Avenue woman alleged someone had posted five inappropriate pictures of her on a social-media site and has sent her a series of unwanted text messages.
Theft: A man and a woman in their 30s reportedly stole a flashlight and a Bluetooth speaker from Walmart, 1300 Doral Drive.
Identity theft: A Glenwood Avenue woman learned that someone without authorization tried to withdraw money from her bank account after she had applied for a loan online and discovered the supposed loan company was a scam.
Menacing/criminal damaging: A Hillman Way man reported a window to his apartment was broken, and that someone had threatened to beat him up.
Theft: An East Western Reserve Road man noticed a $300 stainless-steel grill and a propane tank missing from his back porch.
Drugs: Authorities answered a call about a man asleep in a vehicle in the 6800 block of Lockwood Boulevard before reportedly finding in a cigar wrapper a pill determined to be Alprazolam, an over-the-counter drug commonly used to treat anxiety, likely with no prescription. No arrests were made, however, pending further investigation.
Recovered property: Police found on Crestline Drive merchandise that three women had reportedly stolen from the J.C. Penney store in Southern Park Mall. The women were issued a criminal-trespassing warning to stay out of the store.
Theft: A West Haven, Conn., woman reported having sold a $500 iPhone for which she was never paid after it was shipped to a Romaine Avenue residence.
Criminal mischief: A Barbie Drive man told police that used cups and other trash have been tossed into his yard over a six-month period.
Theft: Two 12-year-old boys were accused of taking $230 worth of merchandise from Dick’s Sporting Goods, 550 Boardman-Poland Road.
Theft: Three compact discs and two phone power cords were removed from a car in the 10 block of Maple Drive.
Theft by deception: A loss-prevention official with Kohl’s, 383 Boardman-Poland Road, found out a man reportedly had used a fake $100 bill to buy merchandise.
Theft: Mill Creek MetroParks police handed to township authorities Jon P. Leonard, 37, of East Auburndale Avenue, Youngstown, who was wanted on a theft charge, related to a Sept. 13, 2016, incident in which a Youngstown woman reported her wallet stolen at a South Avenue discount store.
July 14
Arrest: Police in downtown Youngstown picked up Stefan L. Syrjanen, 32, of Knollwood Avenue, Poland, who was wanted on a charge of inducing panic. In May, authorities responded to a possible drug overdose in the 5000 block of Youngstown-Poland Road, where a man reportedly was found lying unresponsive in a parking lot before being given several doses of Narcan to reverse or block the effects of opioids. When he came to, Syrjanen also admitted having taken heroin, a report stated.
Arrest: While responding to a possible fight in the 7500 block of Market Street, police charged James A. Lewis, 71, of Market, Boardman, with obstructing official business after alleging Lewis had refused several times to identify himself.
Aggravated menacing: A Glenwood Avenue woman reported having gotten several unwanted text messages that included inappropriate photographs of what appeared to be children. One message reportedly stated a man would kill the accuser if she contacted police.
Citation: Officers responded to a report of an intoxicated person at a South Avenue business, then issued a minor-misdemeanor citation charging William R. Hyatte Jr. of Meadowbrook Avenue, Youngstown, with disorderly conduct. Hyatte, 31, urinated in the business, according to a police report.
Truck theft: A 2001 Ford Ranger truck was stolen in the 30 block of Shadyside Drive.
Arrests: Officers conducting a traffic stop handed a minor-misdemeanor citation charging Gerritt W. Roon, 22, with marijuana possession after they had responded to a fight in the 7300 block of South Avenue. Roon, of West Boulevard, Boardman, also was wanted on a Struthers Municipal Court warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court. In addition, police charged Jordan I. Darby of Sabrina Drive, Boardman, with operating a vehicle impaired after saying Darby had a 0.159 blood-alcohol content, which is nearly double Ohio’s 0.08 legal intoxication limit.
Theft: A Shadyside Drive woman reported money and DVDs missing from her car.
Assault: A New Castle, Pa., man alleged a worker with a Doral Drive big-box store grabbed him in an effort to prevent the accuser from walking down an aisle the employee said had a waxed floor.
Theft: Two women told police money has been stolen from them after they started making payments for a cruise only to discover the Boardman business from which they had booked the vacation was closed. The accusers reportedly lost a total of $530.
Aggravated menacing: A Glenwood Avenue woman reported having received five threatening text messages that included correspondence stating she would be harmed.
Menacing: A Moyer Avenue woman told officers a neighbor who was arguing with another person made a comment about slapping the accuser’s young granddaughter.
Arrest: While dealing with a possible domestic-violence situation in the 8000 block of Market Street, police took Niya McCall, 41, into custody. McCall, of Willard Avenue Southeast, Warren, was wanted on a Youngstown Municipal Court warrant accusing her of failing to appear on a charge of operating a vehicle impaired.
Drugs: Authorities at St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital took custody of Joshua D. Baker, 34, of Main Street, East Palestine, who was charged with possession of drug-abuse instruments, related to a May 12 incident in which officers responded to a possible drug overdose at a Valley View Drive residence and reportedly found a hypodermic needle. Baker had overdosed on heroin, firefighters told police.
Theft: Officers took custody of Heather M. Drabiski, 44, of Idaho Road, Austintown, who faced a felony-theft charge after a March 25 situation in which the owner of Hercules LED LLC, 5922 South Ave., alleged discovering a check that had been made out to Drabiski without his signature. A further review of the company’s financial records revealed 33 checks had been issued without authorization over a six-month period that totaled $29,159, a police report showed.
July 15
Arrest: Jonathan J. Hapcic of Warner Road, Hubbard, was arrested after police had responded to a possible fight at a South Avenue motel. Hapcic, 41, was wanted on a probation-violation charge from Liberty Township.
Arrest: A traffic stop near East Midlothian Boulevard resulted in the arrest of Blaine M. Marsicola, 41, of Oregon Trail, Boardman. He was wanted on a Struthers warrant charging assault.
Theft: Anthony Direnzo, 49, was charged with theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after a $40 men’s necklace was taken from Kohl’s. Direnzo, of Overlook Avenue, Youngstown, also had a suspected crack-cocaine pipe in a cigarette container, police alleged.
July 16
Arrest: Police responded to a roll-over accident with injuries on Ferncliff Drive before charging Daniel J. Zarlingo, 36, of Lee Lynn Court, Poland, with operating a vehicle impaired. Zarlingo had a 0.168 blood-alcohol content, a report showed.
Theft: Shar’dell S.M. Lowery, 26, of New England Boulevard, Boardman, was charged with intentionally failing to scan $53 worth of food and clothing while at Walmart.
Theft: Devon C. Smallwood, 24, and Tanjia L. Manigualt, 41, both of East Avondale Avenue, Youngstown, were charged in the theft of $132 worth of items, including undergarments, from Gabe’s, 850 Boardman-Poland Road.
Trespassing: Authorities answered a complaint regarding a man begging for money outside of a Boardman-Canfield Road store before charging Arnold D. Harding of East Midlothian Boulevard, Youngstown, with criminal trespassing. Harding, 60, was at the Boardman Plaza in violation of a trespassing warning, police said.
Arrest: Officers at an Operating a Vehicle Impaired checkpoint near Market Street and Overhill Road arrested Royce D. Taylor, 38, of North Mercer Street, New Castle, on an OVI charge. Taylor’s blood-alcohol content was 0.154, a report said.
July 17
Menacing: Four people alleged two employees with a Doral Drive big-box store challenged them to a fight and threatened to use box cutters against the accusers.
Criminal mischief: A man left a Doral Drive big-box store and reported seeing what appeared to be suntan lotion that had been sprayed across his vehicle’s driver’s side.
Theft: A man reported his wallet missing while he was near U.S. Route 224 and Tanglewood Drive.
Theft: A man told police someone had stolen his $150 bicycle in the 4000 block of Market Street.
Criminal damaging: A vehicle in the 1300 block of Doral Drive was found with a damaged driver’s-side door.
Counterfeit: Two phony $50 bills were reportedly found in a register drawer at Suzie’s Dogs and Drafts, 1393 Boardman-Canfield Road.
Vandalism: A woman told police someone had tossed a soda can at her car, striking a passenger-side door, as she drove near South Avenue and Meadow Lane.
Criminal damaging: A woman reported returning to her Oregon Trail home to find two broken garage-door windows, as well as broken beer bottles on her driveway.
Theft: Police phone booked Annette L. Alexander, 41, of Palmer Avenue, Youngstown, on theft charges, related to April shoplifting offenses at Walmart and T.J. Maxx & More, 717 Boardman-Poland Road.
