Neighbors | Submitted.Attorney Mark Huberman retired as the Chief Magistrate of the Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court on June 30. He will continue to serve the community by taking up two new positions: Administrator for the Ohio Association of Magistrates and Executive Director of the National Health Association.
June 30 marked the end of a distinguished 30-year judicial career when Attorney Mark Huberman retired as the Chief Magistrate of the Mahoning County Domestic Relations Court.
Huberman, whose career was celebrated at the Court recently, joined Judge Beth Smith’s Court 20 years ago as her first full-time magistrate following a 10-year period of service to the Mahoning County Juvenile Court under the late Judges Martin Joyce and James McNally. During his period of judicial service, Huberman was one of the most active and respected magistrates in the State of Ohio, having presented numerous continuing education seminars for lawyers and magistrates both locally and around the state. He was a Charter Member, Seventh District Representative and Past-President of the Ohio Association of Magistrates, an organization that now serves as the voice of more than 600 magistrates throughout the state. He has also served on several committees and commissions of the Ohio Supreme Court, most notably the Commission on the Rules of Practice and Procedure for which he served as Chair for three of his six year term, during which time he authored and co-authored several changes to the Ohio Rules of Civil and Juvenile Procedure.
Huberman is retiring to assume two new positions. Effective July 1, he became the Administrator for the Ohio Association of Magistrates where he will be responsible for maintaining its membership, updating its website and managing its spring and fall conferences, where magistrates from around the state obtain their Continuing Education credits. He will also become the Executive Director of the National Health Association, a health organization in which he has played a leadership role for nearly 40 years. The Association, now based in Boardman, has been advocating the benefits of a whole foods, plant-based diet since 1948 and publishes the award winning quarterly magazine, “Health Science.”
In addition to his new administrative roles, Huberman plans to offer his experience and training as a Mediator — a service he provided with great success throughout the past five years at the Domestic Relations Court.
Most of all, Huberman is committed to once again actively supporting the great Boardman Schools, where he served 20 years on the Board of Education, and to the many great organizations that help make Boardman “A Nice Place to Call Home.”
