Austintown outages
AUSTINTOWN
FirstEnergy crews were working late Thursday to restore power to 90 customers in the East Rockwell Road area near state Route 11. Power went off at about 8:30 p.m. and a spokesman estimated it would be restored by midnight.
The spokesman said crews inspected the lines, but could not find a cause of the outages, so re-energized the lines.
Other streets affected by the outage were Viola Road and Anderson and Innwood drives.
5-vehicle crash
HOWLAND
A five-vehicle crash Thursday at the intersection of state Route 82 and Howland-Wilson Road in Howland injured at least two people who were taken to different hospitals, reported 21 WFMJ-TV, The Vindicator’s broadcast partner. Police said the crash, which occurred around 5:20 p.m., occurred when a driver committed a left-turn violation. The crash caused traffic to be backed up in the southbound lane of Route 82.
At least four cars were heavily damaged. The number of people injured and their conditions were not known late Thursday.
Overdose charge

A township woman faces a criminal charge related to an opioid overdose she reportedly suffered earlier this year. According to a police report, Ashley Cooper, 23, of Arlene Avenue was arrested on an inducing panic warrant Wednesday. The charge stems from a March 24 incident, when police were called to a Market Street motel room for an overdose.
The victim, Cooper, was revived with naloxone. The report notes that police did not observe any drugs or paraphernalia in plain view in the room.
Home burns to ground
YOUNGSTOWN
Reports said a vacant East Side home burned to the ground early Thursday. Firefighters were called around 4:25 a.m. to 413 Ayers St. and found it in flames and set up operations to protect nearby homes, reports said. Damage is listed at $6,760.
Car seat safety checks
WARREN
Safe Kids Mahoning Valley is conducting car seat safety checks as part of a free event from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday at the Central Fire Station, 111 South St. S.E. According to SafeKids.org, 73 percent of car seats are not used or installed correctly, and road injuries are one of the leading causes of unintentional deaths to children in the United States.
Parents and their children can learn about car seat safety and have their seats checked and adjusted by trained safety technicians. Akron Children’s Hospital is the lead organization for Safe Kids Mahoning Valley.
Quarter auction
AUSTINTOWN
Austintown Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 126 will host a quarter auction beginning at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Saxon Club, 710 S. Meridian Road. Doors will open at 5. Cost is $10, which allows entry and one bidding paddle. Additional paddles are $2 each.
There will be a 50-50 raffle, and food and drinks will be available for purchase. The fundraiser will help the FOP efforts to fund scholarships and youth sporting events.

Road to close
VIENNA
Prindle Booth Road, also known as Pleasant Valley Road, will be closed between Smith Stewart Road and Oriel Rogers Road until Aug. 4 for replacement of Vienna No. 2 bridge, says the Trumbull County engineer’s office. The recommended detour is east on Smith Stewart, south on state Route 193, and west on Tibbetts-Wick Road.
