Bike run to be Aug. 6
The “Love to the Rescue” Bike Run will take place on Aug. 6 at Biketown Harley Davidson and will end at the Youngstown Shrine Club. Sign up starts at 10 a.m., and the first bike out will take place at noon. Tickets are $15 for riders and passengers, and includes door prizes and a meal ticket. Additional door prize tickets can be purchased for $10 each. The main door prize is a 2017 Royal Enfield 500 Motorcycle. The public is invited to attend and support this fun event. Fitch concert choir to raise funds for NYC trip
On Aug. 6, the Austintown Fitch Concert Choir will host a fundraiser at the Woodside Community Garden, beginning at 6 p.m. The concert choir will perform for about 2 hours, all to raise funds for their upcoming trip to New York City where they will perform in Carnegie Hall under the direction of Eric Whitacre, grammy-winning composer. The concert choir was selected to perform based on their high level of musicianship along with their high quality audition tape. This concert is free and open to the public. The choir will also be selling food, doing a 50/50 raffle and accepting donations for their trip. The Woodside Community Gardens are located at the corner of Elmwood and Rosemont Avenues in Austintown, South Wickliffe area.
Mill Creek Chapter of ABWA to meet on Aug. 8
The Mill Creek Chapter of ABWA (American Business Women’s Association) will host its Aug. 8 meeting at A La Cart in Canfield. The meeting will begin with networking at 6 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. The menu includes hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, tossed salad, jello and, for dessert, pie. The cost is $14 per person. Reservations may be made by calling Marilyn Abramski at 330-726-2507 or Darlene Demjen at 330-755-9089 by July 31. The speaker for the evening will be Michele Gianetti of Canfield. She is an author of books about her daughter, Elizabeth, who has Dyspraxia. The books are written to help children growing up with a sibling who “isn’t like everyone else.” Gianetti’s books have been used by universities in special education and occupational-therapy classes. Special guests for the Aug. 8 meeting will include the group’s scholarship recipients. The public is welcome.
Paper crafting corner
Join the Austintown library every month to learn how to create a different paper craft. The August event will take place on Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. You must register. This event is for adults.
Local church announces installation of a hearing loop system
On July 30, First Presbyterian Church, located at 201 Wick Ave. in Youngstown, invites the public to come experience their new hearing loop system in the sanctuary at 10 a.m. The system will benefit members of the community with hearing aids and those who are hearing impaired without a hearing aid. Hearing aids have made significant improvements in the last decade, but in larger public places they are not able to make a person hear like they would like to. A hearing loop lets them hear clearly and without any difficulty. A hearing loop, also known as an Induction Loop, provides a magnetic, wireless signal that is picked up by the hearing aid when it is set to ‘T’ (Telecoil) setting. This telecoil is found in most modern hearing aids and all cochlear implants. For those who do not have telecoils in their hearing aids, the church has receivers with headsets available that perform the same function. Anyone who uses hearing aids is advised to contact their hearing care provider to make sure your instruments are properly adjusted for listening in a hearing loop or they can contact call the First Presbyterian Church at 330-744-4307.
Strategy board games at the library
If you like to play strategy board games, go to the Austintown library on Aug. 12 at 3 p.m. to play games like “Ticket to Ride,” “Settlers of Catan” and “Carcassonne.” Play what’s there or bring your own to share. Light refreshments will be served. This event is for adults and teens.
Watercolor with Andrea
If you have you always wanted to paint with watercolors, join the Austintown library on Aug. 23 at 6:30 p.m. and they will take you step by step to create your very own work of art. Space is limited. Call 330-744-8636 to register. This event is for adults and teens.

Bring your own snacks and drinks to enjoy during the movie on Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. at the Austintown library. The movie will be a newly released DVD rated PG or G. This event is for the family. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Learn to use one of today’s most prominent tools in scheduling at this program on Aug. 22 at 6:30 p.m. at the Austintown library. Learn the basics of using Google Calendar including adding events, linking documents, adding and sharing calendars, printing calendars, sending/accepting/declining invitations and color coding. Blood drive

Car and motorcycle show
The Friends of PLYMC will host a car and motorcycle show at the Austintown library on Aug. 5 from 5:30-8 p.m. The event includes a DJ, raffle, Cornhole game and food. Redeemer Vacation Bible School to be Aug. 2-4
Redeemer Lutheran Church will be offering its free Vacation Bible School program on Aug. 2-4 from 9 a.m. until noon for each day and is open to all children of the community who are ages 3-12. The program will take place at the Pogany Pavilion in Austintown Township Park on Kirk Road on Aug. 2 and 3. The final day’s program will take place at Redeemer Lutheran Church, located at 2305 S. Canfield-Niles Road, with a luncheon for all children and parents at noon. The theme for the 2017 program is “Creation Camp.” Young people will learn of God’s creation, sing campfire songs, go on a nature scavenger hunt, watch a puppet show, get a free T-shirt they design themselves, plant seeds in a terrarium and enjoy Christian fellowship and snacks. Horror movie marathon for teens
Take your mind off the horror of a new school year by spending the day at the Austintown library’s horror movie marathon. The event will take place on Aug. 11 at 9 a.m. The movies will be rated PG-13, so make sure it’s okay with your parents that you watch them. They will start the first movie as soon as the doors open, and keep the reels going until 5 p.m. Stay for as little or as long as you want... if you dare. This event is for teens entering grades 7-12 only. No exceptions. Some snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.

Join the Austintown library on Aug. 7 at 10 a.m. for lively discussions of the group’s latest readings in history and historical fiction. There are no assigned titles. Summer writing contest: short shorts
Short stories deliver a powerful punch without dragging on for pages. The Austintown library will let you use 1,500 words max for this particular contest, taking place during regular hours throughout July. Entries must be typed and submitted by July 31. The winner, as voted on by library staff, receives a Barnes and Noble gift card. This event is for teens entering grades 7-12.

Austintown Park to have summer concerts
The 2017 Summer Concerts in the Park series, presented by Hollywood Gaming Mahoning Valley Race Course, at Austintown Park will soon begin. Concerts will take place on Tuesday evenings, from 7-8:30 p.m., weather permitting. Concerts will include Blue Siren on Aug. 1, Amanda Jones and The Family Band on Aug. 8, Jim Frank Combo on Aug. 15 and Sound Bite on Aug. 22. Austintown Park is located at 6000 Kirk Road in Austintown.

GA to meet twice this week
Gamblers Anonymous, a 12-Step fellowship of compulsive gamblers who want to recover from their gambling addictions, will meet twice this week in the Youngstown-Warren area. A GA meeting is offered every Friday at Westminster Church, located at 119 Stadium Drive in Boardman, and another is offered every Sunday at Christ Church Presbyterian, located at 3425 Hopkins Road in Youngstown (in Cornersburg). Both meetings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and last about 1-1/2 hours. Those who believe gambling has affected any part of their lives are urged to attend. Italian man and woman to be honored at festival, applications accepted
The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest 2017 is seeking nominations from family members or friends regarding their favorite Italian man or Italian woman. The nominees would be considered for the highest honor and if selected would be introduced in person at the festival ceremony on Aug. 4 at 5 p.m. in downtown Youngstown.
