BOARDMAN

A township man faces numerous felony charges, accused of assaulting two police officers.

Michael West, 20, of Roche Way is charged with two felony counts of assault on a police officer, one count of felony obstruction of official business and a misdemeanor count of resisting arrest.

He was arrested Tuesday after being released from an area hospital and was in the Mahoning County jail Wednesday.

The charges stem from an incident reported about 3 a.m. Sunday on Sylvia Lane. According to a police report, a caller reported someone had knocked on their window and was running up and down the street.

When police arrived, the man, later identified as West, reportedly attempted to flee and then proceeded to assault both of the officers who responded.

The officers reported West was not subdued by stun guns or batons, and that he punched and wrestled with them and attempted to bite them. Both officers were treated for injuries at an area hospital.

West is scheduled to appear in Mahoning County Area Court today for arraignment.
