KaiLi Gross pitched a three-hitter and struck out nine as Poland captured its second straight regional championship and earned another trip to the Junior League World Series in Kirkland, Wash. Jackie Grisdale, Brooke Bobbey and Camryn Lattanzio each had two hits to lead a 10-hit attack for Poland. The locals will face Canada on Sunday as pool play begins at the World Series, which runs through Aug. 5.

Boardman rolled in its tournament opener as pitchers Gavin Hyde, Cal Huston and Jack Ericson combined on a shutout. Hyde worked the first four innings, struck out nine and allowed one hit.. Huston followed and Ericson finished and struck out four. Hyde, Ericson, Ryan Conti and Zach Ganser each had two hits. Hyde doubled and drove in three runs and Conti, Ganser and Huston also had doubles. Other Boardman hits were supplied by Caleb Satterfield, Marty Stachowicz, Matt Kay and Charlie Young. Huston and Ryan Kalmer each stole a base. Boardman continues in the winners bracket at 5:30 p.m. today against New Albany.

Mason Nawrocki had three hits and drove in two runs to lead Boardman over Mount Vernon. Tyler Kirlik and Grayson Eicher each had two hits and two RBIs and Anthony Triveri had two hits and scored twice. Eicher pitched three innings, struck out six and allowed one earned run. Boardman takes on Tuscarawas at 4 p.m. today as the tournament continues. On Monday, Boardman beat Ironton 12-2 in four innings. Ryan Neifer got the win and struck out five. Kirlik closed it out and struck out two. Kaden Mayhew had three hits and two RBIs and Eicher jad two hits and two RBIs. Ivan Rudiak had a hit and drove in two runs.

USSSA ROAD TO ORLANDO FAST-PITCH WORLD SERIES
Valley Extreme-Buck win title
ORLANDO, FLA.
The 12-U Valley Extreme-Buck fast pitch softball team from Warren breezed through the USSSA Road to Orlando Fast-Pitch World Series. The team is comprised of girls from Trumbull, Mahoning, and Portage County. While in Florida, the girls competed against a field of 40 teams from all over the country including Texas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, and Florida. Valley Extreme-Buck finished the tournament 8-0, making them national champions. They went 75-15-2 during the season. The team got off to a hot start, outscoring their first four opponents 23-4. In total, they only gave up seven runs the entire tournament. The girls faced little adversity until the final game, where they won 1-0 and did not score until the final inning.
