YOUNGSTOWN

City police arrested a woman on weapons and drug charges on the South Side and a man who led police on a chase on the East Side who had a 2-year-old child in his car in separate incidents Monday.

Police charged Taniqua Smith, 27, with carrying a concealed weapon, receiving stolen property and drug possession, according to a police report.

Police were called to a Hilton Avenue address on the South Side in reference to a fight. They followed Smith to a Philadelphia Avenue house after being told she had left the scene with a gun.

Police reportedly found a gun, which was listed as stolen out of Stark County, in a garage at the house, as well as more than 300 prescription painkiller pills in the car that Smith left.

Smith is scheduled for video arraignment in municipal court today.

Meanwhile, Marvin Reese, 25, of Youngstown, is in the Mahoning County jail on charges of fleeing and eluding, tampering with evidence and endangering children after reports said he led police on a chase that began about 2:55 p.m. at East High Avenue and Albert Street when he ran a stop sign and almost caused an accident.

Reports said Reese also threw a bag and a gun out the window of his car at Fruit and Shehy streets, but officers checked the area and could not find anything, reports said.

Reese was caught after he stopped a couple of streets over on South Truesdale Avenue. The child was found in a car seat and was not harmed. Reports did not say who took custody of the child. Reese is expected to be arraigned in municipal court today.
