Election deadline

Farmers National Banc Corp., the holding company for The Farmers National Bank of Canfield and Monitor Bancorp Inc. recently announced a tentative election deadline of 5 p.m. Aug. 10 for shareholders of Monitor to elect the form of consideration they wish to receive in connection with the proposed merger of Monitor with and into FMNB Merger Subsidiary II LLC, a newly formed, wholly owned subsidiary of Farmers.

Closing of the merger is subject to approval of Monitor’s shareholders and other customary closing conditions. Shareholders of Monitor are reminded to vote before the commencement of the special meeting at 9 a.m. Aug. 8.

Chamber contract

Trumbull County commissioners recently approved a new 12-month, $23,000 contract with the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber to continue its multifaceted economic-development efforts in the county.

The chamber oversees the retention and expansion of local business and attraction of new business to the Mahoning Valley, providing a broad range of proven economic development services by assisting companies in identifying suitable properties, securing project incentives and obtaining strategic information.

BWC rebate

The Youngstown area will collect nearly $60 million as part of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation’s $1 billion rebate for Ohio employers, the agency’s top executive announced Tuesday during a visit to a Leetonia company.

BWC Administrator/CEO Sarah Morrison said private and public employers covered by BWC in the Youngstown area will share $59,878,762.

Humtown President Mark Lamoncha and Deann Davis with the Columbiana Area Chamber of Commerce accepted a ceremonial check totaling $8.4 million on behalf of Columbiana County employers Tuesday. The remainder of the $60 million regional total will go to employers in Ashtabula County ($7.7 million); Mahoning County ($27.5 million); and Trumbull County ($16.2 million).

US home prices reach record high

WASHINGTON

U.S. home prices reached a new high in May for the sixth straight month, which may raise fears of another housing bubble roughly a decade after a previous one burst.

The Standard & Poor’s CoreLogic national home price index, released Tuesday, increased 5.6 percent in May, the latest data available.
