On the lookout

Streets around the Struthers AMVETS post, 305 Elm St., were closed, but neighbors gathered on porches to keep a lookout for Trump’s arrival in town.

Infrastructure query

Struthers Mayor Terry Stocker said if he had the chance to speak with Trump, he would ask about infrastructure and economic development.

Save the ACA

Trump supporters and protesters from “Say No to Fascism” debated women’s health care outside the Covelli Centre.

A giant copy of Youngstown City Council’s resolution supporting Save the Affordable Care Act was on display on a big screen ahead of the downtown rally. Meanwhile, Portage County Democratic Socialists showed support of single-payer health care.

Military service

Secretary of Interior Ryan Zinke, introducing Trump’s entourage at the Struthers AMVETS Post 44, said: “A third of the president’s cabinet has military service.”

The president was there to meet with local veterans.

‘Crazy Russia’

Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, wife of Eric Trump, got the Trump rally crowd going with criticism of the media and the “crazy Russia” story.
