BOARDMAN

After a six-month search, the Boardman School District has a new treasurer.

The school board unanimously voted at a meeting this week to hire Nick Ciarniello for the job. This marks Ciarniello’s first job as a public-school treasurer. The Springfield native has a background in accounting and government auditing.

“We’re excited to have Nick,” said Superintendent Tim Saxton. “His fiscal wisdom and his experience on the auditing end are going to be invaluable to us. I think he’s a great addition to our leadership team here.”

Ciarniello was among approximately 25 people who applied and eight who were interviewed for the position, Saxton said. The school district has been searching for a permanent treasurer since January, when Greg Slemons resigned to take over as chief financial officer of Youngstown City Schools.

Ciarniello has an accounting degree from Youngstown State University. He also has an Ohio School Treasurer License, according to a news release from the district.

He is slated to start Aug. 14. The details of his contract have not yet been finalized, school officials said.

“I am honored to be selected as Boardman Local Schools’ next treasurer,” Ciarniello said in a statement. “I look forward to being a part of such a strong leadership team as they continue to move the district forward.”
