Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. recently hosted a scholarship reception and installation of new officers for 2017-19 at the Avalon Inn in Warren. Susan M. Moorer, president, presented the scholarship recipients and the student shared some of their education plans and aspirations.

After dinner, the officers were installed by Camille Pinkard, presiding officer. They are Crystal Davis, second vice president; Susan M. Moorer, president; Marla Mitchell, first vice president; Lynette Sutton, auditor; Dawn Powell, treasurer; Teresa Rice, financial secretary; Chantelle Hallman, corresponding secretary; and Angela Sanders, recording secretary.

Deltas have taken pride in the education and encouragement for excellence with young people and continue to reward their efforts. They conduct programs and projects throughout the year to address educational needs and attend school board meetings.

Under International Involvement, Deltas have organized projects for sending glasses to Nigeria in West Africa, “Eyes for Africa,” which was developed by Dr. Michelle McCullin. They also have sent five barrels filled with educational and hygiene items to Ghana. Chairwomen are Octavia Payne and Lynette Miller.
