FAIRS, FESTIVALS

St. Vitus Parish will sponsor its 36th annual festival Aug. 2 through 5 from 6 to 10 p.m. on the church grounds, 910 S. Mercer St., New Castle, Pa. There will be fun for the whole family with kiddieland rides and games, homemade foods featuring nightly Italian specials and nightly Italian-American entertainment. The Baby Doll dance will be Thursday at 9:30 p.m., and fireworks are planned for Saturday at 10:30 p.m. For more information, call 724-652-3422.

Niles Historical Society will host its Heritage Day from noon to 5 p.m. Aug. 5 on the grounds of the Ward-Thomas Museum, 503 Brown St. The theme will be “Remembering our Past, Living in the Present, Embracing our Future.” There is no entrance fee for the displays and demonstrations by local crafters, vendors and artisans, including the Dragon Guild. There will be food and raffles along with face painting, children’s games and activities. Local artist Rick Muccio will do caricatures. Historical books and items will be available for view and purchase as well as tours of the Ward-Thomas House.

Hubbard St. Patrick Church will host its 59th annual festival Aug. 3-6 at 225 N. Main St. Entertainment is scheduled for every evening and raffle prizes will include a 55-inch TV, Apple iPad Pro and many other items. Grand Prize raffle is $25,000 cash. Homemade food is available, rides and bingo Aug. 4 and 5. Admission is free. Hours are 6 to 11 p.m. Aug. 3 and 4, 5p.m. to midnight Aug. 5 and 3 to 11 p.m. Aug. 6. On Aug. 5, a 5K run is to take place with proceeds to benefit the church’s food pantry.

Youngstown American Hungarian Federation will host its annual Hungarian Day Festival from 1 to 5 p.m. Aug. 6. Advance dinner tickets for chicken paprikash are required by July 30. FUNDRAISERS

Hubbard Public Library will be accepting donations of school supplies through Aug. 12 for students who would not be able to afford the supplies necessary for back-to-school. All patrons who donate will have any accrued fines on their Hubbard library account waived. Fine-free patrons and community members are encouraged to participate, but donations will not be credited for future fines. Friends of Fido will host its fifth annual celebrity bartender night from 6 to 10 p.m. Aug. 10 at The Lake Club. Tickets are $40 each or a table of 10 for $350. The event includes dinner, cash bar, live auction and basket raffle. Three featured bartenders are John Hirschbeck, retired major league baseball umpire; Jessica Shields, K-9 police officer with Youngstown police department who was a contestant on The Amazing Race; and Patrick Lavanty, owner of Nicolinni’s Restaurant and contestant on American Ninja Warrior. St. Nicholas School will participate in a shoe collection fundraiser until Oct. 1. Rubber band “gently used” shoes in pairs. The goal is to collect 2500 pairs and boxes to donate are located at St. Nicholas and Holy Trinity Church doors.

Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Tabernacle Blvd., is sponsoring The Beacons of Hope: Extravaganza and Trunk Show from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 26. All proceeds from this crafts, fashion and trunk show will benefit the Tabernacle education assistance ministry with scholarship funds. The show is free and features crafts, accessories, fashion, food, music and a cake walk. Vendor space is available for $25 and the deadline to register is Aug. 1. LIBRARY FRIENDS

Friends of the Warren Library will host its annual book sale from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 5 and 1 to 3 p.m. Aug. 6 at the Warren Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave. NW., second floor in the Thomas Meeting Room. PICNICS

Holy Trinity Serbian Orthodox Church, 53 Laird Ave., Youngstown, will host the 85th annual Serbian Day Picnic from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. Free Polish Krakusy Society will have its second annual summer picnic from 12:30 to 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at Countryside Farm on route 224 in Poland. SUMMER CAMP

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society is hosting a summer camp at the Tyler Mahoning Valley History Center, 325 W. Federal St. The camp will take place Monday through Friday and is designed for young historians age 12 to 15. The campers will dive a bit deeper into local history as they learn what it’s like to be a real historian. They will complete a special project, a website, a video or an exhibit about a local history topic. The camp runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. AARP 3104 Canfield will host an overnight bus trip to Blennerhassett State Park on the Ohio River Aug. 15 and 16 with a tour of the mansion and grounds. Young Leaders Advisory Board of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society is hosting an Aug 12 bus trip to East Liverpool. The bus tour will depart the Tyler History Center, 325 W. Federal St., at 9 a.m. The trip will begin with a special behind-the-scenes tour of the Homer Laughlin China Factory. Lunch will be provided. There will also be a guided tour of the Museum of Ceramics, and a walking tour of other downtown historic sites. The bus will depart at 5 p.m. Cost of the trip is $40 per person for members and $45 for nonmembers. Pre-paid reservations are required.
